Ryubu's winning percentage is definitely not correct; even his record under his current shikona is not 0-fer.

To the surprise of no one, Nakata and Yamashita are off to a "fast" start, already MK after day 7. If they have the desire to continue, they're certainly looking to be dai-persister material. Azumayama also adds to his total persistence streak with a loss on Day 7 leaving him without any wins this basho, although he failed to show up for the first two rounds.

Five years into his career Azumayama missed matches for the first time, handing him an early makekoshi this basho. The rest of the lineup doesn't look much better with Yamashita and Nakata also winless, and plenty of 1-3's. Only Sadanoyu and Akutsu are flying the flags for a possible kachikoshi. (Although they've since dropped to 2-3...)

We actually have two 3-3 kachikoshi contenders here after all - after dropping to 2-3 Sadanoyu has evened his record again, and Ryubu even battled back from 1-3. Sadanoyu already gets his shot in a few hours, Ryubu will have to wait for Day 14.

I'm too lazy to check for new candidates or update Asashosakari's table, but:

Hatsu: Both Sadanoyu and Ryubu scored their kachikoshi and have graduated. (but they're 0-6 and 1-5 respectively at Haru). Sakai retired.

Haru: All other listed persisters are makekoshi yet again, with only Azumayama and Sekizuka having even scored two wins going into their last bouts.

At which point does Hakuho get added to the persistence watch, for continuing on despite having proven everything?

I must admit the thread feels a little more complete again with a Shikihide rikishi in it. ;-) Incidentally, our most recent Shikihide entrant Hokuyozakura (back then still Chibahibiki) just "achieved" that rare thing, a 10-MK streak by a rikishi who already had a KK previously. (Although the 9 straight 3-4's are arguably even more astounding.)

Edit: I should note that Moriurura also just put together a 12-MK streak again.

Oddly enough, everyone except the two zero-win guys reached a new career high rank after January. I wish I could proclaim that the reason for the lack of KKs, but no...just a not-so-good basho all around for our persisting club, although newcomer Shoryudo did have two KK opportunities from 3-2, losing the last one to (of all people) Moriurara.

Sekizuka now has five straight 3-4's after he didn't post a single one in his first 7 tournaments.

The restaffing continues with two new entrants:

Wow... Simply wow! The last two dai-persisters winning in the same basho? That's even more unexpected than Terunofuji's Yusho :-).

My sincere congrats to both guys!

A stunning double graduation indeed, even more amazing considering that Natsu basho is normally the graveyard of persister opportunities. Both had been quite close in recent tournaments, so it's nice to see them break through.

Going the other way is Nakata who has decided to retire and thus ends his career without kachikoshi, never scoring better than 2-5.

Losing our two most senior members provides us with a bit of an early reboot as we wait for the incoming 2015 class (set to join us after Aki). Meanwhile do have two more 2014 entrants joining us:
