Vikanohara 171 Posted January 16, 2015 Sad that Kyokutenhō is 2–3. Yes, very sad after last basho's kanto-sho. I hope he can break the pattern of following up a good basho with a MK... (cross fingers). Kyokutenhō will be satisfied with a 8-7 after the tournament or even a 7-8. If he goes higher, he would have to fight the Sekiwake-ranks, and I think he knows he better stays where he is right know. I think he's preparing to start an Ozeki run starting from lower Maegashira somewhere by the end of this year. ;-)
Vikanohara 171 Posted January 16, 2015 LOLHe doesn't care about shiko. Period. let me correct your last sentence: He doesn't care about YOUR INTERPRETATION OF shiko. Period. Don't know about his shiko concern, but he sure doens't care about some sicko's period. He must be too bloody serious for that ? Question mark.
Kotoshoumi 31 Posted January 16, 2015 Toyonoshima was excellent against Harumafuji today. Only rikishi so far who gave him a run for his money. Speaking of Harumafuji: he seems to be in perfect shape this basho. His speed and tactics make him so brutal sometimes. I think of all current rikishi in makuuchi, I'd be most afraid of a match-up against Harumafuji. Ichinojo looked great against Goeido today. I was glad we got to see his calm, calculating demeanor again: keeping his cool, biding his time, taking the win.

Andreas21 184 Posted January 17, 2015 Goeido's Ozeki case is nearly closed already. 3 losses already, add 4 for the Top four, and against Giko and Aoiyama it's both 50:50. Kotoshogiko is not far from it - add 4 to his 2 losses, he can allow for one more lapse. Maybe he can save himself because he often had Kisenosato's number. Yep I think Goeido is toast, he clearly isn't good enough to maintain the level expected of an Ozeki. Giku on the other hand is good enough, he has been a great Ozeki and when he has had issues it has largely been due to injury. So hopefully he can rack up enough wins and maintain the rank
CT3* 331 Posted January 17, 2015 The current crop of Ozeki just don't inspire much, imo. Kisenosato is somewhat consistent, but most of his bouts look the same to my eyes. But he is currently the only Ozeki actually performing at a level worthy of the rank.
Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted January 17, 2015 I think Goeido can still sneak the 8. When he's good, he's good. It's sad that his injuries have hampered him since his promotion. Today is obviously a must-win though, but don't forget Goeido can beat anyone on his day.

kuroimori 1,634 Posted January 17, 2015 Myogiryu was lucky today not to have lost his match and not even having to engage in a re-match. In similar close calls, the shimpan very often go for a mono-ii.

Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted January 17, 2015 That Harumafuji loss has to go down as one of the dumbest ever. Utterly unnecessary and will very likely cost him any chance of the yusho.
Kintamayama 45,117 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) That Harumafuji loss has to go down as one of the dumbest ever. Utterly unnecessary and will very likely cost him any chance of the yusho. Before the match even started the commentators said the fact that Harumafuji knows of Joukouryuu's pretty serious injury he suffered yesterday may hamper his killer instinct psychologically and he would not give it his all. Morty 1,495 Posted January 17, 2015 (edited) Kisenosato looks really calm mentally this basho. He has heaps of skill but he seems to do his best when his head is right. A couple of times he has had little scares and just dealt with them calmly and easily. He smoked Aiyoyama who had psyched him out and had it won before the bout started the last few times they have met and today he took care of Ichinojo easily. I wouldn't count him out of this one yet. Especially because he's the one who has caused Homasho's fatal injury in their bout in Nagoya - for which he said he's sorry, after hearing the intai news. http://www.nikkansports.com/sports/sumo/news/f-sp-tp3-20150116-1422496.html Edited January 17, 2015 by Akinomaki

Boorish comments from one with no knowledge of Japan, sumo, or history. Hahaha... I love the reaction of the crowd to that monster double harite at the 24 second mark. Among many others: 1) The woman in the white dress in the middle of the screen puts her right hand on her cheek, like "Oooh, that's got to hurt." 2) The woman in the kimono on the left of the screen hides her face with the gunbai. 3) The woman in pink next to the kimono woman starts going up and down with excitement. Fabulous match.
