Muhomatsu 224 Posted February 6, 2015 Former Ozeki Miyabiyama has expressed his intention to branch out from Fujishima-beya and establish his own hey - reviving the Futagoyama name. http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20150206-00000046-nksports-spo Futagoyama-beya was the 1990s powerhouse that included the likes of Takanohana, Wakanohana, Takanonami, Akinoshima, Takatoriki, Misugisato, Takamisugi, Wakashoyo, and Naminohana - a tough schedule for the likes of the Hawaiian yokozuna at the time. It seems the new Futagaoyama also has scouted his first deshi. 5
Tony 16 Posted February 6, 2015 What a good news! This toshiyori-kabu is owned by Takanohana oyakata, isn't it?
Muhomatsu 224 Posted February 6, 2015 The kabu is owned by former Ozeki Miyabiyama. If he were borrowing it, he would be unable to open his own stable. It seems that Taka already sold both of the shares that had been linked to him (Yamahibiki and Futagoyama).
Asashosakari 19,093 Posted February 6, 2015 So this time it's Futagoyama branching off from Fujishima, instead of the other way around as it was 33 years ago. ;-)
kuroimori 1,634 Posted February 6, 2015 How cool would it be if ex-Miyabiyama could recruit twins for the new Futagoyama-beya? ;-)

He will be taking five deshi with him: Sandanme 98 Tainaka (7 bashos), Jonidan 5E Hayashi (4 bashos), Jonidan 44 Yabuoka (8 bashos) and Maezumo new recruits Morita and Soma . A Futagoyama-beya again after 14 years. The location is in Tokorozawa-city, Saitama - about 2km away from the Seibu Shinjuku line Shin-Tokorozawa station, in the midst of farmland. The keiko ground is the renovated store house of a farm. The Saitama-west branch of ex-Miyabiyama's koenkai approached him with the idea to have the heya there and also give the region a popularity boost - Hokutofuji is from Tokorozawa and the interest for sumo has increased there. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2018/04/01/kiji/20180401s00005000389000c.html 7

I wonder if his first uchideshi is also his first retired deshi - the Kyokai lists Takada as transferred as well, but he's not in the picture and presumably not mentioned by the press articles. Akinomaki 40,221 Posted April 21, 2018 (edited) Today Futagayama-beya had the dohyo opening. 40 tons of soil had been brought into the renovated store house of a farm, with a new teppou pole of hinoki cypress and on the wall there is a photo of Miyabiyama's former shisho Musashigawa (Mienoumi). http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2018/04/21/kiji/20180421s00005000168000c.html with okamisan, son and deshi and heya hopeful Amarsanaa in the back (right) o o oo Edited April 22, 2018 by Akinomaki

Not sure why that photo above struck me the way it did. I think because I’d just read John Gunning’s piece on the42.com in which he describes the challenging life behind the scenes. Akinomaki 40,221 Posted May 11, 2018 On TBS Bakuhou! The Friday today a nice presentation of the - really new - Futagoyama-beya, with a modern okami-san, who promotes the heya on Twitter and recently Instagram: the heya calls for deshi in the social media instead of scouting at local tournaments and tour the whole country like Musashigawa. New recruit Imai is presented, but not a hint about Amarsanaa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OVMMwl8c54&t=75s 2
Akinomaki 40,221 Posted June 4, 2018 Futagoyama-beya on the 1st took part at an event at Futagoyama (1166m, Onago, Saitama), as part of the campaign for good manners and to prevent accidents during mountain climbing. o o oo
