Akinomaki 40,551 Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Kotoshogiku (31) announced his engagement to Yumi Ishida (28). Introduced by an acquaintance he got to know her about a year and a half ago and one month later began a relation. Last October he proposed to her, giving her an hand-made picture book. Since this year they live together. "She supported me (after the grave injury in Kyushu 2013) ... With her I can calm down ... I want to stay active as long as possible and be at ease." They'll soon think about the marriage registration -no dates for the reception. http://www.daily.co.jp/newsflash/general/2015/02/20/0007755691.shtml Edited January 21, 2016 by Akinomaki

ScreechingOwl 343 Posted February 21, 2015 In sumo the landscape is littered with underachievers. Kotoshogiku has been the happy exception, an overachiever. I hope he has as much success in his marriage as he's had in his career.
bettega 431 Posted February 21, 2015 They truly look a happy couple. Some smiles can't be faked, like in the second image Sumo will pass for him but I wish that his marriage not (with or without a "marriage registration")

Shitamachi 21 Posted February 23, 2015 When I first read this thread I thought it said "Kotoshogiku enraged." This is a much nicer story.
Akinomaki 40,551 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) I intend(ed) to change the thread name to something with "marry" as soon it would/will be definite. Akinomaki 40,551 Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) A recap of last time Announcing their engagement: Kotoshogiku and Makiko Fukuchi. The marriage registration is planned for after the Kyushu basho, the party for April the 20th. I hope this one meets the expectation of Sadogatake okamisan better, his last girlfriend was not welcome at all, although she was very nice, pretty, smart, funny and self confident. They met 3 years ago via an acquaintance and he proposed to her half a year ago. Announcing it while facing kadoban: "I thought that we could overcome a lot of ordeals together." The oyakata: "They should join forces and strive together." "It's really regrettable," said Kotoshougiku, announcing his un-marriage.today. "After Hatsu we had a discussion, and this is the result..After we announced our engagement, things seem to have fallen apart. We already sent out the invitations to many people, and that is inexcusable.." he added. The wedding was supposed to take place in April, but they hadn't submitted a wedding registration yet.. An apology was sent to all those that received invitations. "I've been dealing with my feelings and hope to lift them for Haru..I'd like to repay my fans' support by winning in Haru," said the sad man. Akinomaki 40,551 Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Kotoshogiku (31) announced his engagement to Yumi Ishida (28). ... They'll soon think about the marriage registration -no dates for the reception. Kotoshogiku hasn't changed, he still is only thinking: "I/we have the wish to register the marriage soon, but various timing exists. After the Natsu-basho, maybe." He had announced he'd aim for the yusho, could be that he has the intention to wait with the marriage till that (and keeps thinking and thinking ...) http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2015/04/19/kiji/K20150419010194960.html (a reminder: I don't do exact translations, I use the information of the article - -and of others - and write a post sometimes mixed with my interpretation) A marriage registration in Japan requires no timing: it is basically just the information to the authorities that the 2 are a couple, no ceremony, nothing, just a signed paper. Akinomaki 40,551 Posted January 21, 2016 Kotoshogiku (31) announced his engagement to Yumi Ishida (28). "She supported me (after the grave injury in Kyushu 2013) ... With her I can calm down ... I want to stay active as long as possible and be at ease." They'll soon think about the marriage registration -no dates for the reception. The marriage registration was in July, the wedding reception is on the 30th this month, his 32nd birthday. In autumn she obtained a "food meister" qualification (invented by Japanese corporations - there are many, it has to be the athlete food meister) and now is the perfect nutrition coach for him. She's not watching him at the basho, but is busy with preparations for the reception and like usual with giving him a massage when he comes home and the perfect meal. http://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/sports/sumou/497279/
