shumitto 418 Posted April 14, 2015 Nakano Yuuta, 15, from Fukushima, has joined Tamanoi. Under the influence of an older brother he started sumo in kindergarten and later fought an all-Japan tournament in 4t, 5th grades. Upon joining junior high-school he has competed at regional (Touhoku) level as well. A flood of articles about his entering interview today - the plan to enter one basho later did bear fruit. Short term Hochi long term Sponichi Nikkan variation Meitaro Hamamachi (22), the vice captain of the Nittaidai team first of all wants to reach sekitori quickly, doing sumo like Chiyotaikai. 181 cm, 128 kg: not big, thus a reason for entering Kokonoe-beya was that Chiyonofuji also was a light-weight and made it to yokozuna. The shisho: "Firmly, with affection, I'll instruct him rigidly." As his results for far, winning once against Endo in his 2nd year is mentioned. http://www.sankei.com/sports/news/150415/spo1504150029-n1.html http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1461930.html Edit: I added the links to 3 other pics variations and replaced one with the better version Edited April 16, 2015 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 40,791 Posted May 1, 2015 Hamamachi (182cm, 128kg) and 9 others passed the initial check at the shin-deshi kensa today. Doudai sumo club captain Mitsuhiro Tsukimoto (22) was one of the others. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2015/05/01/kiji/K20150501010271750.html
shumitto 418 Posted May 1, 2015 There is a recruit with Self-Defense Forces experience. He joined them in Kyoto, only be be released after two weeks. Iwagami Taishi did some sumo in high school, going as far as being runner-up in an all-Japan event representing his school. He later quit sumo to take up handball, but watched sumo on TV. Standing at 1,79 cm and weighting only 85 kg he will join the Minezaki-beya. He wants to ge bigger [of course] become Ozeki and do sumo like his shisho. The last rikishi with that kind of experience was the sekiwake Tamanofuji, who joined sumo, quit to join the SDF but came back to sumo later. Andreas21 188 Posted May 12, 2015 He looks . . . awkward. Who do you refer to? Poor Kadokura, just crumbled down. The only trouble for Brodi was that he expected more resistance so he stumbled on his opponent. Mae-zumo often has these unmatched matches, Kiribayama and Hamamachi were no different.
Asashosakari 19,664 Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) Day 4: Results: Mz1 Urutora (1-1) Mz4 Kadokura (0-2) Mz5 Miyazaki (1-1) Mz8 Watatani (0-2) Mz9 Iwagami (0-2) Mz12 Asaokado (1-1) Mz13 Kunitoshi (0-2) Mz2 Kiribayama (2-0) Mz3 Homarenishiki (1-1) Mz6 Hamamachi (2-0) Mz7 Ueno (2-0) Mz10 Fukuazuma (1-1) Mz11 Tsukimoto (1-1) Mz14 Fujita (2-0) A bit of an upset in the final bout. Doshisha isn't a top of the line university where sumo is concerned, but a collegiate rikishi probably shouldn't lose like that to an upper-jonidan level guy on a bum knee. Fellow gakusei Hamamachi did the business on Homarenishiki though; no shame in losing that one for the Canadian rookie, Hamamachi is almost certainly at least of mid-makushita quality. Standings: Mz2 Kiribayama 2-0 | Mz1 Urutora 1-1 | Mz4 Kadokura 0-2 Mz6 Hamamachi 2-0 | Mz3 Homarenishiki 1-1 | Mz8 Watatani 0-2 Mz7 Ueno 2-0 | Mz5 Miyazaki 1-1 | Mz9 Iwagami 0-2 Mz14 Fujita 2-0 | Mz10 Fukuazuma 1-1 | Mz13 Kunitoshi 0-2 Mz11 Tsukimoto 1-1 Mz12 Asaokado 1-1 I'm not sure how they're going to handle the mismatch in the 1-1 group tomorrow (4x East, 2x West) - I suspect they'll shuttle Tsukimoto over to the West side which would make him Homarenishiki's next opponent.
