Hatsu 2016 Rikishi Status - Day 15 MIA

Recommended Posts

Asakayama was back on shimpan duty for day 8 after 2 days of kyujo - the hospital check showed that it wasn't influenza: "The fever is down, I'll do my job in this condition till the end." http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20160117/sum16011719220010-n1.html

Asakayama-shimpan (Kaio) is kyujo since day 6 with about 40°C fever, likely for about 2 or 3 days (same as Isegahama-beya's Aminishiki maybe).
Same Isegahama-ichimon Takashima-shimpan (Koboyama) filled in for him today.

Ikioi seems to be able to continue - hopefully Ishiura also wasn't injured too bad.

Something snapped in the back of his right thigh when Amakaze leaned on him as he was digging in very low: he immediately lost power and his hands dropped to the dohyo. He then couldn't move for a while and afterwards had to be helped out, limping heavily. He will decide if he can continue according to the result of the medical examination.

Glad to see Mitakeumi try to come back, hopefully he doesn't suffer too many more losses.

The flu has made this tournament a real downer and now has affected Kagamio (Kagamiyama beya) and gyoji Kimura Motoki (Minato beya). Two days rest with antipyretics. I'm hoping all others not yet affected are taking precautions, and now wondering who's next.

Reason for withdrawl: Influenza :(

Seems to be quite a virulent strain this year. Today's shimpan.

"So he'll be in Makushita or Sandanme- we've got to get his body back to a place where he can do sumo..Next time he appears on the dohyo, he will not be in this situation!!" said Oitekaze Oyakata today, hinting at possible surgery on that knee for Endou..

About time. He shouldve gotten surgery all those months ago when he firt injured himself. I considered him a lost cause, but maybe with enough rest hell be able to come back in his former glory, who knows

If he does, he will be all the more popular for it.

Another gyoji, Shikimori Kindayu (Nishinoseki) is out with it as well, and makuuchi yobidashi Daikichi.

Chiyomaru for at first sight no apparent reason (but from Kokonoe-beya) had to use the wheelchair after the bout: he said the inner part of the right knee is where he got injured. He wants to have it checked in a hospital and if the pain continues thinks he won't continue this basho: "I want to avoid acting unreasonable."

http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20160119/sum16011921030017-n1.html

Ms5e Kizenryu had to crawl off from the dohyo and had to be helped up by 2 yobidashi. He looked like he might need the wheelchair, but declined and managed to walk out by himself in the end.

Ishiura had no power in the leg, but so far can continue.

Chiyomaru should be able to stay in Juryo at 5 wins right now, so it might be better for him to take time off to get everything sorted with the knee.
