Atenzan 1,084 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) Henka loss! Kisenosato slipped forward after Shouhouzan's more-than-half-henka. Shitatedashinage attempt was not needed, since Kisenosato slipped from the far lighter impact than he expected. Edited July 19, 2016 by McBugger

Kaioshoryu 63 Posted July 19, 2016 Shohozan doesn't give a damn about the ichimon. But what about the script that's in place to create the next japanese yokozuna??? This wasn't supposed to happen, dammit!
kuroimori 1,634 Posted July 19, 2016 Takayasu is looking like a cheerful Filipino grandfather sitting beside the dohyo. He just followed every singly one of the kensho banners with big eyes like a totally astonished 5-year old - very funny scene :-)

Atenzan 1,084 Posted July 19, 2016 Goueidou seemed to look like Kyokutenhou for a second, then defeated Tochiouzan very similarly to Kyokutenhou in that playoff.

Asashosakari 19,655 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) First time since Kyushu 2007 (!) that all makuuchi rikishi have at least two losses by Day 10. Edited July 19, 2016 by Asashosakari

Atenzan 1,084 Posted July 19, 2016 If Tochinoshin had succeeded in his tsuridashi attempt, it would have been Hakuhou's second career tsuridashi loss. He was ranked Sandanme 98 east in the first.

Would also have been Tochinoshin's first win over Hakuho in 23 tries. Has anyone ever had that one-sided a record?

Would also have been Tochinoshin's first win over Hakuho in 23 tries. Has anyone ever had that one-sided a record? From my own trivia bit: There are only four rikishi in history that faced a certain opponent 20 or more times and were unbeaten. These are: Taihou, faced Haguroyama 21 times for no loss Hakuhou, has faced Tochinoshin 22* times for no loss. If I played cricket or English billiards (which I do), I would put an asterisk next to the 22 to mark the tally unfinished (which I did). Musashimaru, faced Tochinowaka 23 times for no loss Kitanoumi, faced Tochihikari 29 times for no loss. One would presume that no non-yokozuna has accomplished this feat, looking at the names listed, but Musashimaru never faced Tochinowaka as yokozuna, their last bout being in mid-'99.
Andonishiki 170 Posted July 19, 2016 maybe Kise is not interested at all in getting a Yusho....all this tiresome photo-sessions, driving around in an open-car on a Sunday evening thru the crowds.interviews, parties, omede-TAI sessions with large, stinky fish and then - the constant pressure to perform or face retirement ??maybe he loves sumo too much and is just afraid of all that. A Yokozuna needs a certain mental strength and maturity...Kise doesn't seem to be there yet (will he ever get there....?)It would be such a mess if Hak (& the mongol gang) had agreed on Kise's promotion, but someone else (himself the most likely) blows it.... after y'days slippery bout my first thought was - ok, now Hak goes kyujo, then Kise's deal is basically done. Well, it's not.remember that Hak was 987 wins before Nagoya... so he's very eager to get 13 wins...that means he will win all the remaining 5 - that includes the Kise boutin my humble opinion, this fact reduces the likelihood of a Kise yusho significantly...Kise and Hak cud have gone 13-2 if Kise wud have won today...then Kise cud have taken the Yusho in an unprecedentedly exciting ketteisen.Yuya Shohozan - the feisty dwarf from Fukuoka - has just made this szenario impossibile..Five guys with 8-2 and Ichinojo on their toes - Yeah baby, shaggadelicNagoya seems to become the most exciting basho since Ali vs Foreman

The last instance of a komusubi being the mole feeder was senshuuraku, Natsu 2000. The komusubi in that case was Kaiou. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Results.aspx?b=200005&d=15 Edited July 19, 2016 by McBugger
