Atenzan 1,084 Posted September 11, 2016 What a funky, spunky tune they used to reveal the yusho portraits. Did they always use that?

Atenzan 1,084 Posted September 11, 2016 Okinoumi clings on to the ato-tatemitsu grip even with a foot on the tawara and delivers a big kick up the ato-tatemitsu as far as Kisenosato's tsuna run is concerned. Great bout.
Rocks 1,809 Posted September 11, 2016 Wow, why did Kise go for that high arm hold? Cost him the match.
Atenzan 1,084 Posted September 11, 2016 Tochiouzan pulls even with Kakuryuu at 21-21 while Hiragumafuji chokes Kaisei to win. After day 1, Hiragumafuji and the pair of kadoban ozeki are the only Y+O to be undefeated.
Rocks 1,809 Posted September 11, 2016 Well, Kakuryu went down. Harumafuji won but he came awfully close, maybe too close, to choking Kaisei. I don't think anyone but a Yokozuna could get away with that.
Tsubame 368 Posted September 11, 2016 He did not choke him, he pushed Kaisei's head back. There is a small difference...
word20 21 Posted September 11, 2016 Kisenosato lost his first match. I don't think he will win the yusho and become yokozuna, it seems like he wioll face the same thing as last basho.

Tenshinhan 1,612 Posted September 11, 2016 Good sign for Kisenosato: The latest successful Yokozuna run began with a Day 1 loss against Okinoumi.

What a great sign for Kisenosato. But I fear his 13-2 is inevitable. Harumafuji will win with 15-0 record this basho. Also Ura decided to decimate Osunaarashi, because of course he does. So how many wins will Ura get this basho again are we aiming for a triple doubles? Ura has that Chiyoootori balance, nerf please. Harumafuji has a losing record against Yoshikaze & (if he doesn't go kyujo) Kotoshogiku.
hamcornheinz 839 Posted September 11, 2016 (edited) This isn't a spoiler, but there are about two second in which both Ura and Osunaarashi had their hands down, and are just waiting for each other to move. Reminds me of those old bouts they recorded in the 50's. Also, Aoiyama went full beast mode today. Edited September 11, 2016 by hamcornheinz

Dwale 419 Posted September 11, 2016 Greetings, everyone. Hope you're well. Day one action, well, it's too early to say much, though of course that's no good omen for Kisenosato, but I'll be cheering for him whatever happens. My main man Osunaarashi unsurprisingly losing to Ura (Ura's style is a nightmare for Osunaarashi, it just is). Fun match, though. And my, but Osunaarashi's chonmage is getting ever more historically accurate. Shodai put up a good fight. You know, Kotoshogiku is strong, so if he's pushing on you, it's difficult not to move backwards. Terunofuji looked like he had something going there, but Yoshikaze speeds in with the same grip the entire division knows Teru is vulnerable to now. If he doesn't patch this hole, he's gonna be in trouble. I hope Takayasu didn't spend the interim period getting wasted and goofing off, because he's going to have a rather difficult time if that's the case. It's only day one, so not a lot to say. Kanpai. Yes, but what did Chiyootori do, to deserve that? That was brütal. Nice day of sumo, except for Kise.

There's as a bit of choking there. You see it here well on the 3rd replay after the match.
