Kisenosato's even done it. Figures, Thanks. Interesting, all that have done it, except Kise so far, either already were and became Yokozuna. I guess there is still hope for Kise yet. But even if I wore it for Halloween, nobody in the States would know who Hakuho is!

If Hankuho was here Goeido would probably not have faced him yet so his 12-0 record so far is unaffected by Hakuho's absence. Hakuho has won 2 Yusho this year but he's only looked great in those 2. He could easily have lost this one too. A win for Goeido here would not have been out of the question if Hakuho was present given how strongly Goeido has fought this yusho. Yeah, sure. It's all planned so that Goueidou gets the yusho. Isn't it obvious?

With Hakuho kyujo everybody's (except Kisenosato's) confidence level increases. To his credit Goeido, of all people, has taken the most advantage, so far. It is good to see Kaisei back from his vacations, but a bit too late. Takanoiwa has shown much more fighting spirit, but sports the same record. I wouldn't blame Kaisei though, as he is likely injured. Amakaze is just too green for Makuuchi. It should be remembered though that he is yet to clinch a kachi-koshi from upper Juryo (!) and even in the bottom half his performances were far from consistent. I like the guy, but I have trouble seeing him as a Makuuchi mainstay. Aminishiki has sealed his Juryo spot. I am surprised. It seems you can never write him off. WAKATAKE 2,671 Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) Can someone confirm when the last time a rikishi from Osaka won the yusho? I was watching the NHK broadcast a couple days ago and I didn't hear the comment in its entirety, something about it would be the first time since 1986 or the first time in 86 years that someone from Osaka would win. Thanks. Never mind I found it. It really is true. http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&shusshin=33&form1_y=on&form1_m=on Edited September 22, 2016 by WAKATAKE
Bumpkin 438 Posted September 23, 2016 Goeido will clinch the Yusho on Friday if: 1) Endo loses to Shohozan, 2) Takayasu loses to Mitakeumi, and 3) He defeats Harumafuji. This would be Goeido's Yusho!

My question about if this is really Goeido might almost be considered a real question. The kadoban situation really has done something to Goeido to make him way more aggressive than usual and it has worked out very well for him. I know, I didn't mean you. d_golem 213 Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) I have a sneaking suspicion that a certain bald-headed, middle-aged guy who frequently posts compilation videos on youtube is the one pulling the strings behind the sport we call sumo. Now I'm off to watch NHK Premium on my overpriced cable TV subscription for the Day 13 Makuuchi bouts, peeling my eyes to the corners of the TV screen hoping to catch the aforementioned geezer handing tiny instruction envelopes to the rikishis before they enter the stadium. Fair point there, after all, Kinta is the one spotting lizard people in the crowd, so it must be a thing! On a more serious note, this has been an exciting basho to watch in many ways. I never thought I would actually say this before Aki, but I am rooting for Goeido to pull it off.
