Oskanohana 261 Posted January 18 A suggestion in case Hoshoryu's promotion doesn't come true and there's no way to fix the automation code properly before next basho. Would it be possible to feed the system a fake banzuke with let's say Takerufuji as a yokozuna? Everybody is picking him anyways and I'm sure the BSYDC can grant him this temporary status. This way we'll somewhat respect the "if there's no yokozuna, pick an extra maegashira" rule. It'd be a wacky patch, but hey, I like Chiyoshoma. Just spitballing. Why does it have to be a Maegashira? Etc.

The game rules from waaay back were specifically an additional Maegashira if no Yokozuna on the banzuke. There could be a tweak of the banzuke to arbitrarily designate a specific Maegashira as "Yokozuna" but I expect that the automation would still be a challenge to do such a tweak without accidentally screwing up something else. If it is simple fix (I doubt), then sure, designate the lowest Maegashira on the banzuke or any other non-subjective designation (most wins last basho, oldest rikishi, etc.) to fill a 10-man squad. Asashosakari 19,320 Posted January 18 Putting anybody at a fake yokozuna rank would undoubtedly screw up - at minimum - the bout score tie-breakers.

A problem I can predict is the lowest ranked rikishi tie-breaker. If the code checks it from the altered banzuke, oh boy, maybe it can check the real banzuke then. Still, it's messy, but it's a patch until Chiyoshoma's ascension. The main issue is of course the problems you can't think of. You change a line of code and hilarity ensues. Xiongmao 12 Posted January 27 After a truly dismal three-basho run of picking the wrong ozeki in Bench sumo, I've decided to spend more time scrolling down far less to see the results from March. I'll work up to returning to the yokozuna rank with a target of Kyushu 2028! Sumo Game was a lot more straightforward in this regard!

I know messing with code is not something for transitory fixes but we may not be looking at a transitory problem. Even if promoted does anyone see Hoshoryu as a dominant Yokozuna? Is there a "dominant" yokozuna on the horizon? Or the likelihood of multiple yokozuna for a significant length of time? A dominant Yokozuna doesn't help much anyway. Almost everyone picked a healthy Hakuho even with 3 good Yokozuna. The Yokozuna pick has pretty much been dictated for a very long time now. The solution may be just to group the Yokozuna and Ozeki together and allow players to pick 2 from those. I've thought this might be a good idea for a while now in games that force a ranked pick, like RotoSumo.

I've thought this might be a good idea for a while now in games that force a ranked pick, like RotoSumo. As much as I hate to commend Sumo Talk for anything, their Fantasy Game allowed for things like this, where there were curated groups instead of fixed groups, and the curator tried to make it as hard as possible (from their point of view) for picking which one of the group was likely to do the best. Near the end of the time I stopped playing though, it looked like whoever was doing the assignments got lazy and only really changed them from what they might be for RotoSumo when there was someone obviously out of place in the rankings. The main problem with this approach is that someone has to be keeping up on things, and the automation has to provide for it. Something like RotoSumo is absolutely never going to change. Stablemasters makes it still more interesting, including the sekiwake in with the Y/O, as well as grouping them with the komusubi. One of the massive upsides of the extremely decentralized fantasy sumo scene is all the different rule sets that make sense in their own way. Roto serves up an automatic pick when there's only one yokozuna (or ozeki); Bench makes you figure out who's best out of everyone else, along with knowing when to start or sit that single option; etc., etc. As long as a game doesn't have a rule set ripe for abuse, it has its niche. Andonishiki 170 Posted January 30 (edited) it's more than a week now... somehow i'm sober again after all the festivities & celebrations for the absolutely unexpected, fantastic Jun-Yusho in bench Hatsu'25 ! next is to work out all the stats and prepare to repeat such a performance in Haru ! my Jun-yusho speech is quite short: "Minna-sama honjitsu wa o- isogashi naka o.... Jun yuuuushooo yeah baby SHAQADELLIC YEEEAAH ijo desu" ... waiting for Bunbu's Yusho acceptance speach and for eternal SAKURA ichimon glory ! Our PINK ichimon shines brightest in spring, so all you unfilliated bench maniacs - if you ever wanna win an ICF flag - join SAKURA (winner of FOUR ICF flags in 2024 !!) basically - only mukade is serious competition, all others are side noise right now ! that's how far it went after all the years - then Sakura, Atheneyama, Joaoiyama, Beeftank, Joputosu, Kaji and several other pink heros stepped up to finish what Saruyama, Rubensan and andonishiki had tried to establish for sooooo many years... DOMINANCE in PINK Long Live Sakura - may the FLAG be PINK in 2025 again many many times ! yours truly andonishiki Sakura ichimon recruitment officer since 2009 Edited January 30 by Andonishiki

Andonishiki 170 Posted February 1 Dearest Bunbukuch, you seem to be very shy, but the cybersumo world wants to know more about you, pls let me ask a few questions, hope that wont bother too much: - what was your first reaction when you found out about the bench Yuuushooo in Hatsu'25? Who was the person that you told about it? - which drink, which food did you enjoy to celebrate ? - what's your mawashi colour and why do you like PINK so much ? - next basho every bencher will try to hunt you down - you feel that immense pressure already ? how will you prepare & react ? have more Calpis than usual ? double your CHANKO portions ? - you need to work further to climb up ranks in the superbanzuke to achieve eternal greatness for the SAKURA ichimon and your stablemaster. Which games will you focus on and how ? Last Question: what's your favorite Song and could you sing it for us ?? (maybe post a link to tiktok, utube or twitch video) We're greatful to have you as a part of benchsumo and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors - OOOMEDETOOOO (imagine a huuuuuge TAI-fish picture here)
Bunbukuchagama 720 Posted February 2 (edited) O'K, I can try. 21 hours ago, Andonishiki said: what was your first reaction when you found out about the bench Yuuushooo in Hatsu'25? Who was the person that you told about it? I was obviously excited. Nobody around me is really interested in sumo, so, I don't usually share my game experiences with anyone (the one exception was that one time I won GTB and told my wife about it ) 21 hours ago, Andonishiki said: - which drink, which food did you enjoy to celebrate ? Nothing special really; I always have sake in the fridge, but it's usually consumed with an occasional Japanese meal like sushi. 21 hours ago, Andonishiki said: - what's your mawashi colour and why do you like PINK so much ? You are clearly confusing me with Ura. 21 hours ago, Andonishiki said: next basho every bencher will try to hunt you down - you feel that immense pressure already ? how will you prepare & react ? have more Calpis than usual ? double your CHANKO portions ? I don't think I'm at that point yet; one Makuuchi yusho isn't that big of a deal. Regarding Calpis: I actually tried it in Japan; it's not my favourite, but I wouldn't call it disgusting either. 21 hours ago, Andonishiki said: you need to work further to climb up ranks in the superbanzuke to achieve eternal greatness for the SAKURA ichimon and your stablemaster. Which games will you focus on and how ? I need to become better at daily games which are traditionally a weakness of mine. I've made some improvements in S-Quad and TTT lately, but S-Toto is still a challenge. And ISP - how can one win it consistently? 21 hours ago, Andonishiki said: Last Question: what's your favorite Song and could you sing it for us ?? (maybe post a link to tiktok, utube or twitch video) Oh, this is a difficult one. I happen to be a professional (classical) musician, so, my favorites cannot even be called proper "songs" (we prefer to call them "pieces of music"). And yes, I can perform them, but I don't know how to demonstrate it while maintaining a certain level of internet privacy. In conclusion, I will promise to gambarize and continue to do my brand of sumo. Glory to Sakura! Edited February 2 by Bunbukuchagama 2
Jejima 1,384 Posted February 2 Hi all, I have received the following missive from the esteemed head of the Bench Sumo Yokozuna Deliberation Council, Marushiki-zeki:- Esteemed Rijicho, with the first Basho of the year done and dusted, and the Year of the Wood Snake has entered with a bang. Those of the BSYDC who could make it to the HQ for the celebrations discussed the hopes for the new Western year, as well as the New Luna year. For some the Hatsu Basho was challenging, least of all for our venerable Yokozuna, who for the last few Basho has really struggled. To gain the Prestigious Yokozuna title, is hard work and is left to the results from the Real Rikishi, who may not help things at all. With Pandaazuma gaining multiple MK in the last few Basho, we commiserate with him. It was with sadness that we must say, that due to so many MK, though we would encourage Pandaazuma should he continue on, if he chooses to Intai, from the position we fully understand. We sincerely hope that he will rejoin the ranks of, we the lower order of things, and give it another go either go. We all go forward into the bright and shining new year with the hope that the rest of the Sumo Year, is a stronger and more interesting one. Marushiki (Chair BSYDC) Additionally, Yokozuna pandaazuma posted the following message on the Bench Sumo thread at Sumo Forum:- After a truly dismal three-basho run of picking the wrong ozeki in Bench sumo, I've decided to spend more time scrolling down far less to see the results from March. I'll work up to returning to the yokozuna rank with a target of Kyushu 2028! Sumo Game was a lot more straightforward in this regard! Therefore, it is with sadness that I have accepted the resignation of pandaazuma, and have invited him to restart the game from the rank of Makushita 10 West. Bench Sumo is much better with a Yokozuna heading the banzuke. I urge the current crop of Ozkei, Kintamayama, Joaoiyama and Frinkanohana to focus on going to the next level. I note that March will be a tsunatori basho for one of them Jejima (BS rijicho)
