TheMightyTim 1 Posted November 22, 2016 Well, it's official. My KK streak in ISP is at an end. My aim now is to not finish plum last.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted November 23, 2016 After a crazy work week that included travel, trade show & customer visits, 800km of driving, 3 dinner (including 2 consecutive niji-kai) and an equally busy week-end, I finally had a chance to catch up on what's going on in my SG Kyushu 2016 campaign. Given the lack of time, sometimes I could only make my entries half-asleep and at time without even watching Kinta's or Tenshi's digests, I am really surprised about the results - well, about some of them. So here is my watchlist after Day 11: BENCH: 8-3 tied for 2nd place + beat the Yok today. Looking good. JURYO: 4th place, 3 points behind the leader despite having Toku"slow"ryu in my squad. HOSHI: 6th place tie, hoping that Ikioi and Tochinshin will finish strong. DSTS: 7th place, 11 points behind the leader. Can't remember being in contention for SB points in that killer game. NC: 11th place, no idea where this is heading in the home stretch. SCS: 14th place, outsider chances here ISP: 7-4, 20th place right now, 2 wins off the pace, suffering two consecutive losses by Yoks Everything else is either nothing to write home about or simply disastrous, especially TTT, ODD & QUAD. SG started nice, but after a promising 6-1 start, I got into a 0-4 funk and can only hope to snatch 1 or 2 points in the end. Whatever the final tally for Kyushu and all of 2016 will be, it sure is a helluva basho - both the real action on the dohyo as well as the gaming action! Ryoshishokunin 323 Posted November 24, 2016 Can anyone give me any kind of explanation for Kisenosato-Tochinoshin on day 13?
Gurowake 4,107 Posted November 24, 2016 They apparently didn't want to put Kisenosato against Okinoumi since he was MK, and Tochinoshin was the first reasonable opponent available down the line. It is baffling though that they would decide to skip the intrasanyaku match with someone who was technically still in the race for Komusubi just for a random match against a maegashira and not for a match with Yusho implications, especially given how Kisenosato was still in the yusho race. (Past tense all used because I haven't looked at the most recent results yet)
Ryoshishokunin 323 Posted November 24, 2016 Bonkers. Why not Ishiura if you're going to skip the Okinoumi match?
Gurowake 4,107 Posted November 25, 2016 22 hours ago, Ryoshishokunin said: Bonkers. Why not Ishiura if you're going to skip the Okinoumi match? They're too far apart in rank. It has to be absolutely dire for an Ozeki to face someone at the bottom of the division. The NSK felt, and rightly given the last few days, that Ishiura's previous record in Juryo indicated that he would likely pick up losses against opponents that he would more normally face for his rank and wasn't a serious Yusho contender. I'll repeat what I said about how this compares to Ichinojo, where not only was he ranked a bit higher, but his track record was 6-1, 6-1, Juryo Yusho, Juryo playoff loss to an ex-sanyaku recovering from injury (finishing with a better record than the previous Yusho). Ishiura's best result is 9 wins, and it took him 10 basho to get through Juryo. Ichinojo absolutely needed to face as many top-ranked opponents as possible as all his results were consistent with someone who was sanyaku in strength. Ishiura just had a good run that could be assumed to be ended up anyone in the top to mid maegashira area.
Gurowake 4,107 Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) This will be the first day that I have projected Hakuho to lose. It's close enough to get an X in Toto though. Well, a terrible basho for me in RotoSumo, but I started and finished the tournament with the highest daily score. Something to work on there.
Gurowake 4,107 Posted November 27, 2016 What are the tiebreakers for Oracle? Sansho standings? Only thing Google turns up is a discussion of both Quad and Oracle where Quad's tiebreakers are discussed.
Sakura 1,495 Posted November 27, 2016 Not a bad first RotoSumo for me finishing 11th. My daily games results were abysmal. :)

I could have sworn it's mentioned somewhere, but apparently it isn't - the tiebreakers are Shukun -> Kanto -> Gino.

Don't think banzuke rank ever came into it, except maybe as last resort (if so, I'm not sure it's even implemented in the automation).

Harry 67 Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) Hadn't played in 4 years... may not play for another 4 years. Same result in Bench, ISP and GKA, 7-8. I guess I should be pleased but... doesn't feel like good results. Will see if I can do any better in January. Edited November 29, 2016 by Harry
Yubinhaad 11,761 Posted December 1, 2016 Some Hoshitori daily top score newsbits from the last two basho. In the Aki basho, Jejima recorded the top score on Days 2, 3 and 4. It's the 13th time that a player has recorded three in a basho, and Jejima is the first player to accomplish this twice. He is the second to do so on three consecutive days, following Inoshishiyama in 2007 Natsu. In addition, each top score in the Aki basho was recorded by one player each day (i.e. there were no ties). This is only the eighth basho in which this has happened, and the first since 2015 Haru. Finally in September, Kazikozo recorded the 20th daily top score of his career, becoming the fifth player to reach that milestone. Moving on to the Kyushu basho, Pandaazuma recorded a daily top score for the fourth consecutive basho, equalling the record set by Choshu-yuki four years ago. Also, Kitakachiyama is now on a run of three consecutive basho. None of the daily top scores in the Kyushu basho reached three figures, the highest being Haidouzo's score of 96 on Day 9. As far as I can tell, this has never happened before in any basho in the available records. We almost had another basho with no tied top scores too, but on senshuraku Pandaazuma and Kazikozo both scored 87.
