Fantasy Metasumo 2017

Recommended Posts

Hello gamers!

This is the official thread in which to make your entries for the 2017 edition of Metasumo.

The rules are very simple. You need to create a stable of sumo GAMERS. This stable will come from the final 2016 Sumo Game World Championship standings, which can be found here:

http://www.strongoak.net/sb/sbsgwc.html

You should choose ONE (please be careful - some people made errors before) from each of the rank ranges below:

1: 1-5
2: 6-10
3: 11-20
4: 21-40
5: 41-80
6: 81-120
7: 121-200
8: 201+

You can choose yourself if you want to, you vain young thing!

There will be no transfers, so if one of your choices is absent, you'll just get zero for him/her that basho.

Each gamer will win you Masters points if they finish in the top ten in any of the Superbanzuke games in each basho. All Masters points will add to your cumulative total. The winner is the person who has the most points at the end of the year.

So pick the gamers who you think will bring you Metasumo glory...try to find the bargains in the lower categories and avoid the one-hit wonders in the top ones!

Profomisakari won this year and he says he greatly enjoyed the first prize of a romantic dinner with Fujisan. I'll be upping the ante this year: the winner gets to debate evolution with Fujisan.

Enjoy!

Simon (Pandaazuma)

PS. Note to Rando, who kindly looks after this game's standings: I'll put a thread on the Sumotalk forum too for recruitment purposes. Feel free to add this to the German and French forums. Thanks.

Pandaazuma's picks for Metasumo 2017:

1: 1-5 ScreechingOwl. He's been improving steadily year on year and is definitely a viable candidate for top three or even champion now.
2: 6-10 Haidouzo. Another player who is on a massive rise.  I'm hoping he makes at least top five.
3: 11-20 Kotononami. Renaud is due a good year.

4: 21-40 Sebunshu. Another STI lad - but he's been improving too.
5: 41-80 Fujisan. He keeps banging on about how he was world champion - so let's see him put his money where his mouth is!
6: 81-120 Chankoyama. A friend of mine so I'll support her to give her some incentive to do better!
7: 121-200 Gawasukotto. More STI favouritism!  Go, Ronnie!
8: 201+ Leonishiki. One of the few names I recognised!

Good luck, all!

Thanks to the Panda for providing this Sumo Game Game for Sumo Gaming Freaks!

Here are my selections:

1-5   Pandaazuma: guts, passion & ambitions in the right mix made him this years' SG World Champion.

6-10   chishafuwaku: Prodigy from Portugal who also cares about all the non Masters or 2nd League Games.

11-20   Andoreasu: Surely will rebound after an unusual "drop" out of the Top Ten (or rather Top Five)

21-40   Flohru: Same as Andoreasu, I fully expect him bouncing back to contention for the 2017 Championship

41-80   Nantonoyama: A hopefully fast rising new star on the SG horizon

81-120   Itachi: the admin behind Sandanme Game & Pick The Yusho Winners, two extremly interesting games that definitely deserve more attention

121-200   Chisaiyama: Hope he climbs some bigger mountain in the 2017 SG campaign.

201+   Sukubidubidu: I just really like this shikona na nana na!

Thanks for the prize!
But Paul had no appetite. He was still shocked because he had fallen off the ladder. So I had to eat almost everything alone!
Now my weight approaches that of Orora.

For the new race I have selected the following team:

1. Pandaazuma: You must win my points!
2. Chishafuwaku. He was this year one of my best horses.
3. Doitsuyama. Go, Alex, go!
4. Flohru. No comment, he must.
5. Kintamayama. The best horse in this group
6. Wamahada. Let's try with him
7. Gawasukotto. Ronny, you must win more games!
8. Leonishiki. Come back, Spanish hero!

This team shall do the great win 2017.

Profomisakari

But why must it be this time again a prize with Fuji - san?

I’ve been reading Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow. With some of his precepts in mind, I make the following selections:

1: 1-5 Pandaazuma. Although I believe in regression to the mean, it may well be that the Panda’s mean is number 1. Responding to winning the championship by setting higher goals is the stuff of Hakuho and Michael Jordan. Surely the best bet to hold off Gurowake.
2: 6-10 Randomitsuki. Remember the refrain in the Beatles Revolution #9: “Number 9, number 9, number 9….”? Perhaps it should be “Number 10, number 10, number 10" for Randomitsuki. But I think we all know that number is an outlier and there is no way that there are nine gamers consistently better than Rando.
3: 11-20 Andoreasu. I don’t expect another double digit finish for this gaming giant.

4: 21-40 Flohru. It was a fluke for Flohru to finish outside of the top 10, nevermind top 20. More respect for the German contingent and one of the nicest guys in the game.
5: 41-80 KikoCookie. I can guarantee there isn’t anyone who plays in the sumo games who cares less about where she finishes than my daughter. But she does okay regardless, and there is no way I would pick anyone else, even though most will likely do better.
6: 81-120. Chocshoporyu. He’s certainly defeated me enough times.
7: 121-200 Gawasukotto. Maintaining the trend of picking heya mates.
8: 201+ Ilovetochinoshin. Who doesn’t love Tochinoshin? A friend of a friend, as it were….

This is the first time in the history of this game that I have been picked another player other than by myself :-)*

I think that a rule should be considered....  any player playing *should* pick themselves in the bracket that they fall into...

*However, I should warn Ayagawa that my second baby is due in February, so there is a good chance that I will not be playing every game every basho, as family will come first.

1) Gurowake (As much as I would like to see a Sumo 'expert' win the crown I fear the algorythms will win in the long run)

2) Randomitsuki (I guess he will adjust his algorythms a bit in 2017)

3) Ganzohnesushi (At least I have no doubt about that)

4) Flohru (Top kick in this group. I'm sure he will finish among the Top 10 in 2017)

5) Gonzaburow (In this group of dark horses anything can happen)

6) Chocshoporyu (I hope his chocolate delivers enough calories)

7) Gawasukotto (Among so many unknown players I go with the Celtic fan. Lisbon 1967 was a great final)

8) Sakura (I hope some fresh blood is good for SB points)

Ganzohnesushi

And, to my surprise, someone picks me again, this time much higher. I will do my best not to disappoint.

this time I tried to pick only players from UK & Switzerland and you were frist choice
For me it doesn't matter if all my picks play every game&every basho, I've chosen them by sympathy

1: Gurowake - while the first place is not ensured by any means, a lot of points are safe if participation is regular
2: Norizo - after poor years something much better would come
3: Andoreasu - another player to strike back soon
4: Flohru - although I am by chance placed in this backet, chosing giant of gaming should probably yield much more points
5: Gonzaburow - as many top 10 finishes as I had, just for a less value
6: Chocshoporyu - I have a feeling 2017 would be much better
7: Getayukata - clearly playing a lot of games, so some points are inevitable
8: Sherlockiama - no need to explain
