UDH Hatsu Basho 2017

Recommended Posts

Hello gamers,

the UDH entry form is ready now and waiting for your selections. Rules in a (very small) nutshell: Guess the thirteen makuuchi rikishi you expect to have the fewest wins this basho.

You may submit your entry at http://udh.seisa.de/udh_index.html.

Once you have selected your team, please root for them as much as you can. The game was not intended to honor any failure, but to stimulate interest in the less successful rikishi.

The deadline for your entries will be the first day of the basho (Sunday, January 8th) at 12pm Japanese Time.

Good luck!

M2w Arawashi 44 12 1 3 1 0 61 98.4% 5.47

Is this some kind of a record?

Yes, it seems Arawashi has broken the all-time record which was held by Hokutoriki so far. Obviously only one player believed he can survive the meat grinder.

Correct. I thought that Hokutoriki's 5.333 were a record to last forever, but Arawashi did it. Too early to tell yet but the Washi duo seem to be good candidates for some more top ten placements in the list.

Btw, the one believer has many strong maegashira in high slots. Not sure whether it's a "Scarebear entry" or just bad picking.

I'm honestly surprised Chiyoo didn't make the 4+ list as well, even considering Arawashi's stranglehold on the 6-point slot.

Probably under the radar of many that he is actually a shin-nyumaku with no outstanding record(s) while reaching makuuchi. Was surprised myself :-)

Just had a glance on the UDH banzuke and realized that Ekigozan is still listed as Yokozuna. What a shame. His "non-performance" according to the table in 2016 is beyond words.

73 Ekigozan Y x-x Y 4-11 Y x-x Y x-x Y x-x Y 1-14 Y 5-25-60

4 no-shows and two DD MK's. And in Hatsu'17 he is absent again. Why on earth is he still holding this rank? Wouldn't it be possible to adjust the rules for Intai of Yokozuna just like Doitsuyama did in 2016 for Hoshitori?

I must admit that I didn't even notice that Hoshitori changed this rule. UDH has always been pretty close to the Hoshitori rules and ranks (the "seki-zeki" rank is the only major difference, and that's just laziness -- otherwise I would not notice just recently demoted ozeki), and so I might change that, too.

But first I'll have to take a look at the revised rule.

And I won't mention Takanohana's seven basho rest here. No. I. Won't. No!! NO!! :-)

Well, it is very easy :

The demotion (retirement) criteria for a Yokozuna is failure to meet  45 wins in six successive basho (absences count as 7 wins). A retired Yokozuna may enter in subsequent tournaments from the M16 rank.

And I'm not sure what Takanohana has to do with Ekigozan's frequent absentism. Do you really want to compare these two cases? Gimme a break.

So hopefully the UDH rules will be adjusted from next basho onwards.

Well... actually I meant it to be tounge in cheek. That's why I have added that little smiley. Taking a closer look, it obviously wasn't. In both cases some people took every word and every (non-)action waaaaay to serious.

And all that would not have been necessary: I like that rule very much and will indeed be adding it to the UDH rulebook. So no need to negotiate any more :-) (SMILEY. JOKE. MEANT TO BE FUNNY.)

Thanks a lot, Tamanaogijima-san. Great to see you like that rule. And please be ensured that I never really thought you were seriously about Takanohana.... ;-)  Of course I saw that smiley though my sight is getting weaker due to old age.

If they included Tochiozan and Myogiryu, I would be interested in seeing their crystal ball.
