Akinomaki 40,775 Posted February 4, 2017 7 hours ago, John Gunning said: Is the German interpretation of the word tournament the same as the Japanese one, i.e. a knockout style competition? In English I think it's perfectly fine to call a straight league style competition like a sumo honbasho a tournament. No, in German I have the same problem to tell people about a basho in one word if I don't use the equivalent for tournament. I was only referring to the Japanese use. Here we have the funny situation that tournament is both a possible translation of ordinary Japanese and the "translation" of the Japanese katakana word "tournament", taken from English with just that one strict meaning.
fwuzzle23 66 Posted February 5, 2017 Juryo dohyo-iri wrapping up right now. The stream (as far as I can tell) is not geoblocked
Akinomaki 40,775 Posted February 5, 2017 The first real dohyo-iri of Kisenosato to come - the one at the Meiji shrine and those types are not on a dohyo and thus in correct term dezu-iri. The broadcast is a YouTube stream and easy to record - but no video will remain on Fuji TV live
Akinomaki 40,775 Posted February 5, 2017 (edited) Afterwards to watch on TV - the fixed onscreen message is quite boring - the whole thing looks better by scrolling it out of the screen with the <^> camera control On 3.2.2017 at 16:38, Akinomaki said: Edit: the Fuji TV stream is at http://mov3.co/fujitv/->http://vaughnlive.tv/sherming7 Kakuyu did a doyho-iri and started in round 2, Harumafuji really is injured. Chiyoo was kyujo - Osunaarashi looked like he should have been, too. Edit: The recording looks quite funny. Edited February 5, 2017 by Akinomaki

Sakura 1,495 Posted February 5, 2017 I was watching the TV coverage earlier and there was an Endo documentary covering his injuries. I don't speak Japanese, but it seemed like Mitakeumi and Shodai at one point were talking about how motivated they were to beat Endo for the kensho.

Sakura 1,495 Posted February 5, 2017 It seems like the energy level seems to be less than in the basho.
WAKATAKE 2,671 Posted February 5, 2017 Interesting finals showdown between Kisenosato and Takanoiwa. Kise proving he is the yokozuna that everybody wants him to be so far.

Rocks 1,809 Posted February 5, 2017 Kise dohyo-iri was much better this time but I think that's due to not having to do it on stone. At the shrine is very cool but they can't really stamp or slide as they do on the dohyo.
