Kintamayama 45,524 Posted March 8, 2017 Hakuhou came to Tagonoura beya for keiko today.. Oooohhh... First, he took on Takayasu for a few bouts and then turned to the new Yokozuna Kisenosato. Very heated session- 6 bouts, Hakuhou won 4. "It was good keiko," he said later. "I think we had good keiko. I went all out as planned.." added Kisenosato. Takayasu OTOH had 9 bouts with Kisenosato and 8 bouts with Hakuhou and then some Hakuhou butsugari love-punishing. "I am so happy to have received special treatment. I am thankful. I just want to win.." he said. "That is what I call a neck.."
Kintamayama 45,524 Posted March 8, 2017 (edited) Ozeki Goueidou is looking much better. He trained at home today with the likes of Myougiryuu. 23 bouts, 22 wins. "I can feel that my condition is slowly improving.. My ankle injury is not a problem. It's good, " he said. "Watching today's keiko I have a good feeling. He isn't 'cheating' on his abilities-he was able to generate real strength today. That is the biggest step forward.." said Sakaigawa Oyakata. Kintamayama 45,524 Posted March 8, 2017 Yokozuna Harumafuji、 Ozeki Terunofuji and others went for degeiko at Tokitsukaze beya today and each had 20 bouts altogether. Harumafuji faced Ichinojou and Juryo Oyanagi and was 13-7. "I wanted to do 'heavy rikishi pushing keiko' today. My leg is fine," he said. Terunofuji had 20 bouts against the likes of Shoudai and was 19-1 but his left upper arm was heavily bandaged. "I'm as you can see.." he answered when asked about his condition.
Benevolance 2,511 Posted March 8, 2017 Any updates on Teru's bandaged upper left arm and his record against the likes of Shodai at the Tokitsukaze degeiko today? Okay, I couldn't even type that with a straight face. But backing up a bit to discuss Goeidou...he shows occasional flashes of brilliance when he needs to, like his push for ozeki and his recent zensho, but he's then wrecked for the next two or three tournaments and essentially a no-show. Harumafuji is like that, too, but Asa's style is a very reckless, on-the-edge, sumo. He's going to get hurt. My impression of Goeidou's style is that it's pretty staid, much like Kise's, and he shouldn't be getting so banged up...but maybe I'm just not seeing it right. Or maybe he's over reaching his talents? And it never seems like any of his injuries are major, but there always seems to be something. Anyway, I'd really like Goeidou to get back to healthy, stay healthy, and show us he's a good, solid, double-digits ozeki. Especially now that Kise has moved up. The main difference between Kise and Goeido is Kise's ability to stay fit and healthy, giving him a better overall shin gi tai balance. However, I honestly believe Goeido has a slight edge over Kise in technique, and he's shown what he's capable of when he's fit - you can't argue with a zensho! Like you, I'd love to see him stay healthy. I'm sure he'd be joining Kise at the top if he only could, but time's running out. He's older than Kise, and sanyaku is currently full of younger blokes who belong there, not hapless elevator rikishi who happened to get mid-rank double-digit scores when all the joi crashed.

It's a big difference ...... some injuries were purely accidental, but most were because the rikishi reached their limits and overused their bodies.
Kintamayama 45,524 Posted March 9, 2017 Kadoban Ozeki Terunofuji trained at home today with Takarafuji and others- 15 bouts, no results given. He seemed stressed, 4th time kadoban and all. "Who is my first day opponent? " he asked, looking worried. The condition of his injured knees is not perfect. Add the left upper arm injury and it is not looking very good for him. His records of late of 8 wins and double digit losses is unbecoming of an Ozeki, to say the least.. Still, he has never had a makekoshi in Haru.. "I can't find any weak spots.." he said, seemingly trying yo convince himself, more than anything.

Kintamayama 45,524 Posted March 9, 2017 Hakuhou trained at home for the last time before the basho today with Kyokushuuhou and Kyokutaisei who came for degeiko today. 15 bouts, going 12-3. "I'd like all 4 Yokozunae to be unbeaten before they face each other.." fantasized Hakuhou.
