Yokozuna Kisenosato Tribute Video

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of working on a tribute video for Kisenosato. Im a big fan of his and honestly im surprised and glad i stuck by this long after all the choking. I initially planned to make one based on a exceptional ozeki career but he pulled through and has obtained the rope.

Heres the layout for the video: 1.)Young Hopeful 2.) Exceptional Rikishi 3.) Almost Had it 4.) Choking... 5.) Hope 6.) Victory

SHould be less than three minutes long... Ill squeeze in major bouts that i can find on youtube.

Score im thinking: Something from "2 steps from hell" Protectors of the earth or some other  similiar music,

In the victory part and award ceremony im thinking of using : KIMIGAYO sung by the crowd at Kise's award ceremony.

ANY SUGGESTIONS or OPINIONS?

if you guys like it i would work on it and maybe some how send it to KINTAMAYAMA or JASON'S ALL SUMO CHANNEL if they wish to post it on their page.

I will not ask to be credited just wishing this would reach out to a larger audience.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK.... oh and my midterms are close so it may take a while but should be done near the beginning of next basho. :)

ITS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is a draft of the video... Made in a few hours and a bit crappy but what do you guys think? More chronological than theatrical and dramatic... but at least we have a video. lol My time should be going towards some h/w...oh well

What do we think? Any recommendations and critique is helpful... The video can go to Kintamayama or anyone who has a larger sumo audience...if they want...this is temporary...lol i spelled the bands name wrong in the credits..shoot

Yes, it is! And thank you very much!

I don't know what you think guys, but I really appreciate SkinnySumo's work! That is one really professional video! Thanks for the effort!
I like Kinta's daily digest, because it's very simple, informative, and somethimes pretty funny through the yellow subtitles. The digest seems fast, effective, and very DIY. :)
But this is a whole other thing. You took Kisenosato's strory, and poured it with "Hollywood-sugar!" - Don't get me wrong, when I say I do not always like Hollywood's perfectly timed dramatic tools, which are constructed to fully control my emotions. But in this instance, it works!

Too bad, it only has 78 hits.... GUYS, WATCH THIS, because it's great!

The video gives a very interesting, new narrative for Kisenosato's journey in January. Throughout the tournament, I remember feeling Kisenosato a little week, sometimes out of focus. But after I watched this video with this pretty dramatic music, I really feel for this guy. I can see a man, who struggled for a long time, to get to the top, and finally was focused enough to achieve the highest rank. He tried his best to mantain control over his bouts - he sistematically forced his opponents out, never passive, always on the move.  And even when he failed to this (f. eg. against Shohozan, Mitakeumi [for 2 seconds], Okinoumi or even Hakuho), he was keeping on very hard, balancing on the edge, and finally, he was able to defeat them with a witty use of a technique!
BTW,  nicely placed B&W at the Kotoshogiku-loss! - The only spot on his yusho.
After all, I have to disagree with you, this video is really theatrical, and dramatic! - but in a nice way!

I, as a member of this community, am really happy, that you did this. I can't wait for more! I hope, that you will always find the inspiration to do amazing work like this one!

I'll watch it again, but this time, without audio. I'm really curious about the visual layer, and only the visual layer.

I enjoyed that, thank you.

I thought the editing and music worked pretty well together, and I also liked the b/w loss scene.

I'd say well done just for having a go, but this is a much better job than you're 'selling' in your post.

On second watch - now without audio - I feel that this video is tries to make me a fan of Kisenosato! - I'm not sure, if SkinnySumo wanted to recruit me for Kise, or not, but I feel much closer to Kise after this tribute video.

It emphasises the emotional side of the new yokozuna. I saw an experienced, fully-weaponed rikishi at his best form. His real strength was his vital capacity! He wore most of his enemies down, He was the last man standing.

And one little note: I think footage of his public dohyo-iri is missing from this edit.
BTW, I'm not familiar with the name of this ceremony at the end (the way SkinnySumo showed us, it was like when a superhero put his costume on) - does anybody know it?

The making and fitting of the rope is called the tsuna-uchi. There's a little more of it posted hereabouts.

Oh Thanks guys... Jason was even kind enough to post a link to the video in the description of the video he made recently.

Thank you Wakaebala and RJ for your thoughts and ideas...I had fun and felt obligated to make it before this next basho starts being it was already way past due... And since you guys think it is good, looks like Ill leave this as it is.  Ill try to make another one for the winner of this basho.
