Akinomaki 40,791 Posted February 8, 2017 (edited) Ichinojo is happy that his official weight is now his real weight - this won't happen again: On 18.11.2016 at 12:01, Akinomaki said: Maybe the biggest weight gain ever overnight has happened with Ichinojo: yesterday he was about 80kg heavier than Ishiura (Asahi), today 98kg - Sponichi/Daily. At 192 kg he feels he has his best weight. http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/sumo/20170131-OHT1T50038.html he only gained 7kg after the big loss of mainly muscles lately: On 4.11.2016 at 10:31, Akinomaki said: Ichinojo lost 25kg. He was in hospital for 25 days since end of August. He has now the weight he had when he entered ozumo, about 185kg - and at the rikishi-kai on the 1st he was greeted by Tamawashi: "A new recruit has come, nice to meet you." the pics so far - the check-ups started on the 30th On 1.2.2017 at 15:40, Akinomaki said: check-up time with measuring o o o o Oorora the heaviest is just 1.2kg behind the all-time top of Konishiki (active rikishi in white on black) o o o On 7.2.2017 at 18:12, Akinomaki said: The NSK twitter had the obligatory rikishi blood donation o o o o o o o o Blood donations were on the 6th, but Oorora's veins are so deep embedded in fat that he couldn't donate. apparently happy about it: o 70 of the about 100 rikishi present that day were healthy enough to donate, 28 liters were collected. Oorora was there last in 2012. http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/sumo/20170206-OHT1T50207.html His blood fat results are top: triglycerides of about 47, 30-149 is the healthy range - and he doesn't eat much: according to other rikishi from the heya, just 1 bowl of rice - but still now he has reached his top weight of 283.8kg - and he hadn't eaten the evening before. Simply by forgetting to do a diet for one week before the check-up he gained that much. Same heya Kitataiki after the result that is only all-time no.2, 1.2kg behind Konishiki: "Don't lose! - get something to eat and come back for another try." http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1772873.html Chiyootori and Chiyonokuni successfully donated o Edited February 9, 2017 by Akinomaki
Akinomaki 40,791 Posted February 8, 2017 Also Ura is top now with 134kg, up 6kg (this is nearly Harumafuji's weight, with 13cm less in height): "I want to get to 145kg and find my way of sumo." "The daily life of eating and sleeping looks easy, but it's tiresome." Grip power: after his wrist bone fracture the left is down to 35kg, but the right is sekitori top class with 86kg. http://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/sumo/20170202-OHT1T50033.html The rikishi profiles on the NSK site haven't been updated yet with the results

MumboJumbo 37 Posted February 8, 2017 Wasn't it Orora that said he wanted to be the heaviest of all time? Or am I maybe remembering Yamamotoyama saying something about wanting to be the heaviest Japanese rikishi? Nonetheless, kudos to Orora for his efforts in breaking the record (I guess). I don't follow the lower divisions, so I only recently became aware of this guy when he appeared on the list of heaviest rikishi. Can he be the heaviest Japanese rikishi? Sumo DB says his shusshin is 'Russia, Buryat Republic', or am I missing something? Konishiki used his gross obesity to great effect, almost reaching the top. With a 17-year career high of mid-makushita, I get the impression Orora is just seeing how big he can get at his heya's expense. No kudos from me for that.
Arn 24 Posted February 8, 2017 So what is Orora's story, if anybody knows? When trying to google him I only find and old thread from 2007 in this forum, with conflicting information, and a couple of recent interviews in russian (which I dont understand). Is he sick or not? Does he eat or drink like a maniac, does he train at all, does he even like the world of sumo? What are the other wrestlers opinions of him? Like I said in another thread, with so little left to Konishiki's record, he should go for it.
Harry 67 Posted February 8, 2017 This bit on Reddit contains the same thing I heard years ago, that he has diabetes and is in sumo mainly for the health insurance but I don't know if it is true or not. Quote Yeah, Orora has been in sumo principally because he has diabetes and lots of other ailments and needs health insurance, which is provided him by being part of pro sumo. He never had much desire to train - he just eats, drinks and does enough to stay in Sandanme indefinitely. He could probably do the same thing he's doing now for 10 years. Beats living in Buryatia, Russia.

Blimey, we're going to have to stop referring to him as "small"! If Ura can maintain his acrobatics at a proper makuuchi size like 145kg, he's going to be a force to be reckoned with, short or not. With another 11kg to launch into action, though, it's a big 'if'. Will his knees be able to take the strain?

I think he's too old to have this weight increase in such a short time and remain unharmed: I guess the broken wrist also happened because of this rapidly increasing weight - his body won't sustain at the same time the new weight AND the old speed and agility. He has to find a new style, like he said: "I want to get to 145kg and find my way of sumo." Edited February 10, 2017 by Akinomaki
