Pretty short list this time with only 20 absent rikishi.

Yes, I kept going back to look for more. Given the NSK is involved there may well be more

I don't read or speak Japanese but I can confirm this is 100% accurate.

Thanks for that info.

I should make clear it says he received a fracture during the knockout, so take it as only a probable cause for this basho's absence.

Some disheartening news of Toyonoshima.  He will be kyujo for today with pain in the right calf being the reason.

He'll be a no-show for day 1, but he won't show up on the NSK kyujo list for day 1 (past the deadline and on the torikumi). He'll be on that list for day 2 or day 3, depending on when they make it official.

Gyoji kyujo:

From the (cursed?) new(?) Nakagawa-beya, makuuchi gyoji Shikimori Yonokichi is kyujo since day 1 because of poor health. http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2017031200350&g=spo

He was told by the doctors on the 24th last month that he needs 4 weeks of rest. http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20170312/sum17031219040012-n1.html

The heya was staying at the old Kasugayama-beya location, the building of the ex-oyakata of Yonokichi, who just died (Kasugafuji) - further information withheld by the family. I haven't heard anything about which permanent location the heya has/will have.

Brazilian Kaisei is kyujo for the first time in his career. He injured his knee during training with Hakuhou on March 6th. Right knee meniscus. "It's not as bad as we initially thought so he may enter later.." explained his Oyakata.

Very unfortunate. He didn't look in good form and the foot had to be hampering him. I'm sure the tough decision on day 4 didn't help.

Kaisei is back?? I guess he doesn't want to drop too far.

Hakuho clearly had trouble generating any meaningful power. I hope we can get one basho with four healthy yokozunae.

I do...but...I will still take it...

OK, so Kaisei won't be back any time soon. ACL tear and meniscus injury, three months to heal.

So it means we will see him day 3? ;-)

Of Nagoya, yeah..

I will treat this as my victory, to a bet which didn't exist. Because I never win anything, I must take what I can get. Damn shame I was off by 3 days.

//I am salty because I bet something to someone and lost lately. :P//
