Mine was a wedge-shaped piece from the end of my fibula, about 15mm on its longest side. I remember the note on the X-ray: 'Avulsion fracture left distal fibula'. Theoretically, I could have walked on the intact tibia joint, but in reality I was on crutches. If your one came off the fibula, then yes, I can see why you had trouble! Ouch! Mine was the metatarsal. Guess the pain level depends which bone it is. Hope you're well now.

Glimpses of Kaisei A, must be that fabulous new mawashi. Aminishiki already 2-0 vs. Sokokurai and Myogiryu. You probably know but he wore it last basho. Instead, be extremely annoyed at his advisors. Most rikishis will want to compete with injuries, despite the fact that resting them could be in their best interest. But the desire of the rikishi to compete can be overruled by the oyakata and others in his heya. In Ura's case, the advice he received was that it was okay to compete with his injury instead of going kyujo to give it proper rest. That caused further, possibly worse injury. If the aim of his advisors was to do what's best for the rikishi by avoiding doing something that could harm his future career, they failed miserably. Dwale 419 Posted September 12, 2017 What is up with Mitakeumi? He needs to get it together... Onosho and Chiyotairyu look sharp, and Kotoshogiku looks better than he has in a while. What a weird, flukey basho. I can't believe things are this crazy by only day two. It boggles the mind. I don't even want to venture a guess as to who will take the cup. Right now this is a chaos tournament.
kuroimori 1,634 Posted September 12, 2017 Awkward scene by Harumafuji. He thought that he mattaed and let up, while Kotoshogiku didn't bother and charged forward in bumpety-fashion, driving Harumafuji out with ease while the Yokozuna was tapping the Geek's back signaling him to stop... The Gyoji didn't call back the early start and the shimpan also weren't much impressed. Stupid loss by Harumafuji.

Good point, didn't pay attention to that aspect. In any case he should have gone ahead until the gyoji says otherwise.
Asashosakari 19,320 Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Dumb decision by Harumafuji to not just follow through and fight. You can "call" for a matta by taking a passive stance, but not at that point after a perfectly fine tachiai has occurred. Sure, Giku's hands weren't all the way down, but that was due to Harumafuji rushing in early - if there was somebody who had reason to abort the tachiai there it was Giku, but if he was willing to have the tachiai like that anyway, despite being caught flatfooted, why not? Anyway, Haru left himself entirely at the mercy of the gyoji with that, and sometimes that ends like this. Edit: Of course, maybe "dumb decision" isn't the correct analysis. I suppose it's possible that the first tachiai was meant to be an intentional matta by Haru so he could set up something like the HNH for the redo, and he was never in the right mindset to actually follow through with a fight in the first attempt. If so, well done by all concerned. Tactical matta ought to backfire occasionally just like henka do. Edited September 12, 2017 by Asashosakari 3
Philioyamfugi 378 Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Standing ovation for Kotoshugiku.... He is looking solid so far and first kinboshi. Both the fact that Kotoshogiku is looking better than recently and Harumafuji is not looking genki at all made me a firm believer that bumpy would pull off the upset today, though I obviously did not see the way the bout (or lack thereof) would go coming... I was 1 of only 3 players in Bench Sumo who put Harumafuji on the bench and also picked Kotoshogiku to win the bout in ISP and Sekitori-Toto.... Go Onosho and Kotoshogiku!

The worst part is that this seems to happen time and again - insufficient recovery time and compounding of injuries. It's so sad to see another promising rikishi enter this cycle. I can barely bring myself to watch Terunofuji these last few days as most of the bout I'm just wincing and hoping he won't fall and hurt himself again.

dada78641 884 Posted September 12, 2017 I have to say, I think Harumafuji got burned there, though. A more favorable reading of the situation would be that he realized he was too early and tapped out because he was trying to be a good sport to Kotoshogiku. But you're right that it was the wrong decision. He should've just fought and let the matter be decided by the gyoji. I'm a bit surprised none of the other judges stepped in, though.
word20 21 Posted September 12, 2017 Mitakeumi two day in a row with the same loss, Onosho, Kotoshogiku and others with 3-0. Onosho seems to be determined to win the yusho I think that anyone of the Rikishi with 3-0 has the possibility to win. Maybe we will see a comeback for Kotoshogiku. Dwale 419 Posted September 12, 2017 Still too early to count Harumafuji out, IMO, but we have young up-and-comers who are putting up convincing wins, and not losing for silly reasons. Yoshikaze v. Goeido was lame. Boooooo. Arawashi's win was awesome, one the cooler moves in this basho so far. Ah, and I know I'm not alone in cheering Aminishiki for a triumphant return to makuuchi. That would be some consolation after having so many of my favorites injured. Takakeisho means business. Doesn't seem demoralized at all, but rather fired up. Stronger than he looks. Congrats to Kotoshogiku on his first kinboshi? ^.^;
Kaminariyuki 499 Posted September 12, 2017 Well, I'm guessing this will light a fire under Harumafuji, and he goes on to win another yusho. But, I wonder what the lowest ranked wrestler to actually take the cup has been? There are clearly contenders down the banzuke a ways this go round. Had Ura been healthy, I'd have been harboring unrealistic aspirations at this point.
Kaminariyuki 499 Posted September 12, 2017 I know a lot of you are Kotoshogiku fans, but that's the lamest kinboshi I've ever seen. It should be a gold star with an aluminum asterisk, IMO.
Yubinhaad 11,683 Posted September 12, 2017 Amidst all the injury carnage there is some good news in maezumo, where Onomatsu-beya's Amatsu made his long-awaited return after two and a half years out of action. He spent over seven months in hospital after suffering a ruptured ligament in the right knee and a torn peroneal nerve (I assume due to the knee injury), which affects control and movement of the foot. During his time in hospital he was visited by Tatsutagawa-oyakata (former Komusubi Homasho) who had suffered a similar injury. A Makushita-level rikishi before his injuries, Amatsu marked his comeback with an easy win over fellow returnee Kitasatsuma today. 2

The lowest ranked winner of the Makuuchi yusho was Dewaminato who won the Haru 1939 yusho while ranked at Maegashira 17 with a 13-0 zenso yusho. Needless to say that record cannot be broken...

The Geek kept going, HF was waving at the Gyoji for a do-over, so the Geek deserves the Kinboshi. A Yokozuna should be smarter than that, particularly against a guy who has beaten him 35 times.
Morty 1,495 Posted September 12, 2017 About four years ago in one of the start of year polls I picked that Chiyotairyu would be a yusho winner that year. That was when he was on his way up and looked super genki. It obviously didn't happen and since then I have been disappointed (continually). But I'm calling it now - this is the one where he wins one. He is capable of unbeatable sumo on his day and so far, he has been unbeatable. Back on the bandwagon.

ALAKTORN 346 Posted September 12, 2017 I’m thinking this is between Kotoshōgiku and Harumafuji. It’s probably gonna be Harumafuji but Kotoshōgiku has been looking good. Weird bout between them… Harumafuji’s speed playing against him.
