Shishokai convenes

Recommended Posts

The Kyokai Shishokai , meeting of all heya owners, convened today. Main topic-behavior of rikishi who will miss the jungyo. Head of PR Kasugano oyakata was mostly relating to rikishi who are out of the jungyo (which is an official thing so full attendance of everyone is expected), yet show up for private functions.  "The Shishos are failing in their guidance here probably. They have to check out why their rikishi are participating in these meals.." said a somewhat annoyed Kasugano. Miyagino Oyakata answered that Hakuhou (who is out of the jungyo but is  slated to join at some point) will not be attending his  young heyamate Ishiura's wedding (to be held on a submarine) on October the 1st.

No doubt Hakuho will discreetly appear at the nijikai.

Has anyone checked the Miyagino beya computer's browsing history to see if anyone is looking to buy a Rooney jersey?  Just wondering...:-D

If I call in sick and the boss sees me at lunch he is going to have questions, but it's not like they have a disease. If they are hurt but not aggravating it, I say let them go. Handle it administratively somehow.

My no evidence interpretation is that the shiso s would like to relocate a portion of rikishi-specific koenkai events to the heya and all the benefits that entails. Maybe the percentage has slowly shifted over the years...

I could see the whole wedding party moving to where Hakuho is to 'cheer him up' during the nijikai. Ishiura would feel bad to exclude him completely!

Nah. It's always been that way, with  emphasis on the Yokozuna.  Akinomaki has it right - house arrest. It's just that recently this isn't being fully implemented, apparently.  Back in 1949, Yokozuna Maedayama dropped out of the tournament due to injury (after starting off 1-5) and was seen at a baseball game the next day.  Retired immediately. I remember some issues with Asashouryuu as well.

So that means Hakuho also cannot participate in the ozumo 2020 sandan-gamae dohyo-iri ceremony with Kisenosato?

Perhaps only if there is no uninjured alternative. Most logical would be for Y1e and Y1w to participate, if one of them is injured, Y2e, etc.

Since that falls under the category of "official sumo stuff" he might appear. The complaints were about the injured guys showing up at private functions.

I think the best example is of Asashoryu saying he was injured and then appearing at a charity event in Mongolia. That's what ticks off the higher ups.

Yes, he had injured his arm and played FOOTball with kids for charity if I remember well...

If Hakuho was able to do the dohyo-Iri at Ozumo 2020, they would force him to start the jungyo earlier.

I remember Terunofuji hobbling back after the event last year and showing up the next day at the Jungyo venue.

Hakuhou will be doing the dohyo iri both at Meiji Shrine(October 2nd) and at the Beyond 2020 ceremony on October 4th. The torikumi for the October 2nd one day tournament has already been set, so he will be kyujo from that. This paves the way for him to attend Ishiura's wedding ceremony on October 1st. No talk about forcing him to join the jungyo earlier. No date is set for that as of yet.
