What those news stories don't mention is how hard it is for these younger generations to build security for themselves compared with the easy lives of the previous generations. There are far fewer jobs. Wages have stagnated but costs have risen. Housing and food costs are a much larger proportion of income than for previous generations, meaning that saving is much more difficult. Not to mention the fact that employers are not contributing as much to pensions and that some institutions operate under a last-in, first-out method of firing that means that the people fired are the younger folks who haven't had the same opportunities to build security as the previous generations. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
