Akinomaki 40,808 Posted June 3, 2018 (edited) After the party for Onogawa-oyakata, Tochinoshin today returned to Georgia, after a year again. He wants to meet the president and request the building of a real dohyo in his home country: "There is no one made from soil there yet". He'll also attend the wedding of his younger brother. The return to Japan is planned for the 12th. http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2018/06/03/0011321257.shtml o Hakuho had returned from Mongolia in time for Shotenro's party yesterday o o o o Edited July 28, 2018 by Akinomaki 3

Yatagarasu 352 Posted June 4, 2018 It is nice to see such a large turn-out for Tochinoshin at home. I can't imagine British fans making such a big deal over a fellow countryman succeeding in an overseas sport - maybe we take representation on the international stage for granted. I like that the Georgians are celebrating his achievement as it is a bloody hard achievement in sumo for any rikishi, irrespective of the whole 'flying the Georgian flag internationally' dimension. WAKATAKE 2,671 Posted June 5, 2018 Not sure which thread I should post so I think this one is most fitting. Tochinoshin was greeted upon arrival by fans, the media, his wife and daughter, family, and a choir. Truly a hero's welcome. 8
Akinomaki 40,808 Posted June 5, 2018 Sir Tochinoshin received the title of a knight, seen as the highest honor in the Georgian sports world. http://www.fnn-news.com/news/headlines/articles/CONN00393586.html 7

It is admirable of him to represent sumo during his appearances in public. Obviously, Tochinoshin's great achievement (i.e., promotion to Ozeki) won him permission to journey back to his homeland. By any chance, did the NSK pick up the tab for this trip, or did it come entirely out of his own pocket? Edited June 12, 2018 by Amamaniac
Gurowake 4,109 Posted June 12, 2018 I don't think that's a Hakuho yukata. The 鵬 kanji may occur in a bunch of places, but I don't see any 白. A lot of rikishi have 鵬 in their shikona, particularly Enho and formerly Daikiho. Semi-on-topic, there also were Roho and Wakanoho. Full list: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?shikona=*鵬*&heya=-1&shusshin=-1&b=-1&high=-1&hd=-1&entry=-1&intai=-1&l=e&sort=

Ok, I was looking only at the picture he quoted, and all of them are obscured or not recognizable on that one. All of them are mostly obscured on most of them, but indeed there is one that's quite clear on one of the photos now that I have reason to look harder. I stand corrected. orandashoho 720 Posted July 29, 2018 Strange picture. The couple is holding up glasses as if they're going to toast, Tochinoshin doesn't and his hands aren't visible, they seem to be stuck under the table with not enough room for them. The perspective in the picture looks off, it doesn't look like a still but a fake.
