UDH Nagoya Basho 2018

Recommended Posts

Hello gamers,

the UDH entry form is ready now and waiting for your selections. Rules in a (very small) nutshell: Guess the thirteen makuuchi rikishi you expect to have the fewest wins this basho.

You may submit your entry at http://udh.seisa.de/udh_index.html.

Once you have selected your team, please root for them as much as you can. The game was not intended to honor any failure, but to stimulate interest in the less successful rikishi.

The deadline for your entries will be the first day of the basho (Sunday, July 08th) at 12pm Japanese Time.

Good luck!

I would have said a buck three-eighty.

Should I introduce the Aka-sho for holding the red lantern again...? :-)

Wow! Is Obana running at some kind of record for low wins?

Looking at the again poor achievements of our three UDH Yokozuna in Nagoya'18 I was a bit curious and went thru the recent history results. I found that two of the UDH Yokozuna performed rather poor over the last 6 Basho. I thought we had made a rule change two or three years ago demanding 45 wins over 6 consecutive basho to be the bare minimum.

Yokozuna Flohru unfortunately had some terrible results. In the last 6 Basho before Nagoya'18 he achieved 12-3 (07/17), 1-14 (09/17), 4-11 (11/17), 2-13 (01/18), 11-4 (03/18), 6-9 (05/18). That is 36-54 in total over 6 Basho, i.e he should have been demoted.

The record of Yokozuna Mariohana in the same period is even worse. Kosho = 7-8 (07/17), 6-9 (09/17), 12-3 (11/17), 0-15 (01/18), 10-5 (03/18), 0-15 (05/18). That is 35-55 in total over 6 Basho. From my point of view he should have been demoted too.

Moreover, Yokozuna Gonzaburow is in serious danger to miss the 45-45 line. In five basho before Nagoya he/she accumulated 42 wins but with currently 1-14 after Day 13 this could be the end also.

I did not look further in the history whether some demotions should have taken place already earlier.

Just saw that the rule we have adapted for Hoshitori Toto is not yet mentioned in the rules for UDH.

"The demotion (retirement) criteria for a Yokozuna is failure to meet 45 wins in six successive basho (absences count as 7 wins). A retired Yokozuna may enter in subsequent tournaments from the M16 rank."

I had a different rule for UDH but never uploaded the new rules file.

Will revise Hoshitori vs UDH rule now and let you know soon.

Taking the opportunity: After exactly 13 years as a yokozuna it is definitely time for a restart... The last two years were rather difficult and I am glad for not being retired early. At least me and my fellow UDH yokozuna did better than all of our real yokozuna regarding the wins per year stat. :) I will be back at M16 next time - meantwhile thanks Tamanaogijima for running UDH all those years!

(Iamnotworthy...)  Respect for a phenomenal career with outstanding results over the years. I guess you somehow have been a 'role model' for UDH and it's a pity that your recent results were sub-par resulting in your Intai. I'm convinced we can see you climbing up the ranks soon again.
