Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted June 29, 2018 Neymar is indeed a total arse! Can't stand him. That slow-motion dive in the second game...it was like that scene in the Matrix! The Japan game was farcical, but at the same time, we have to blame the system. I think they should just put the winners in one pot and the runners-up in another and then do a random draw for the last 16. Problem solved. Hell of a gamble by the Japan manager though. If Senegal had scored he would have been slaughtered by the media here.

Problem solved. Problem is: what if your draw gives Belgium vs Uruguay? 2 day rest against 5 day rest, not fair at all. And what about the stadium to prepare, the fans to move... Problem is time, this is not champions league where they have weeks to prepare the event and arrange the travels. At least, we this system, anyone has 4-5 days between last group stage match and round of 16. And after the path is clear, they know where they will have to move if they proceed, both for teams and fans. But yes, it can lead to idiotic situations....

It would require a few days break for sure.
torquato 1,075 Posted June 30, 2018 What Argentina and Germany have in common: Both finalists of the last Cup lose in Kazan and drop out unusually early. o_O
Jakusotsu 6,047 Posted July 1, 2018 Was looking forward to a clash of the titans, i.e. Ronaldo vs. Messi next round. Pity.

Pandaazuma 1,310 Posted July 3, 2018 Neymar takes this nonsense to another level. He is destined to be the player that forced FIFA into introducing retroactive punishments for play-acting. Embarrassing.
Jakusotsu 6,047 Posted July 3, 2018 (edited) So far the World Cup has been just weird, but now it's the end of the world as we knew it. Edited July 3, 2018 by Jakusotsu
Jejima 1,414 Posted July 3, 2018 Can you believe it! I was watching the game via my smart phone linked to the big screen TV (the only way that I could watch for free) - and my phone died justas Dier was doing his run-up for the final penalty.... so I missed the winning moment! Fukurou 534 Posted July 3, 2018 If I heard correctly, this is the 1st R16 with 3 matches going to PK. I was interested that no matches were finished after 120. Might as well have gone straight from 90 to PK (yes, I know, heresy!)

torquato 1,075 Posted July 3, 2018 Hell froze over. England won a penalty shootout! o_O Could somebody please wake me up!?
Joaoiyama 313 Posted July 4, 2018 It's gonna be France\Uruguai vs Brazil\England in the final, hopefully Uruguai vs Brazil. It's been a good world cup, it's the fifth i've watched since im from 1996, 2002 was my first and i did the Ronaldo haircut. Good luck to France though, great team even without Benzema they showed M'bape is the new kid on the block.
Jabbamaru 167 Posted July 4, 2018 Portugal x Uruguay - its beautiful to see Uruguay playing. Those guys really represents their football School. How the hell a country with less than 5 million people can have so many great players? Godin, Cavani, Suarez... Russiain x Spain - Epic. F* epic. I hope that was the end of that f* tiki taka... Brazil x Mexico- Neymar being Neymar....Great skills and lots of acting...but let me be clear, i dont hate him just because of the divings but because he is truly an major asshole. besides that...there is no way brazil dont win mexico on a world cup playoff match, with or without him. Belgique x Nihon - Omg! Could a team be more naive??? Sweden x helvetia - who cares? Croatia x Denmark - Croatia is kind of my second team because my girlfriend have croatian heritage. Modric almost f*up but Subasic was a truly hero. England x Colombia - hum, i guess the english boys could perform some nice divings too... France x Argentina - I think france have the best players of the cup this year...Kante, Mbappe, Pogba... They are not a solid team yet but my guess is that they will be champions. So sad to see a guy like Messi so clueless in the field...Sampaoli, dear, you should have put all your best to play... Dibala, Messi, Di Maria and Aguero...This is not rocket science, man... Cant wait for the next round...And Nagoya os comming! Yay

England need to defeat Sweden, and then either Russia* or Croatia to reach the final. *I am starting to suspect yaocho. Expect to see Russia in the semi-finals. Luckily both England and Sweden are probably gachinko.... Edited July 4, 2018 by Jejima

torquato 1,075 Posted July 4, 2018 Let's have a look at how well the tournament is going for the current (continental) champions. CAF / Africa Kameroon: Did not qualify OFC / Oceania New Zealand: Did not qualify CONCACAF Gold Cup / North-, Middleamerica and Carribeans USA: Did not qualify Copa América / Southamerica Chile: Did not qualify AFC / Asia Australia: Out after group stage UEFA/ Europe Portugal: Out after octofinal And the still *sigh* world champion Germany out after the group stage, too. Not a good place for champions… o_O

To misquote Mark Twain, 'rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated'. Spain can pass the ball well, and without any strikers worth mentioning that's all they can do, so they aren't about to give up their one strength. As for the game, how many players have to be rugby-tackled to the floor simultaneously, inside the box for VAR to come back with a penalty decision? Obviously when playing against Russia in their own world cup, the answer is 'more than two.' Spain were hard-done-by in that match.
