Mukade Beya (Formerly STI) Sumo Gaming Banter Thread

Recommended Posts

As some will have noticed, the Sumotalk forum is now an ex-parrot. It was a long time coming as it has only been used in the last few years for the games talk. Most STI lads read this forum too so I am migrating here but will make two major changes as we are now guests rather than hosts. First, in order to avoid spamming this sub-forum, we will keep all future tournaments on this single thread and not create a new one each basho. Second, we are announcing a name change...we are bored of the old name and have decided to return to our centipedal roots. We used to be called the Centipedes back in the day, and the Japanese word for centipede is 'mukade' (muh-ka-day). I will be posting the Sumo Game stats for all Mukade-beya members here from now on. I actually hope some of the other gaming stables (or ichimon) from the Bench Sumo game follow suit and make a similar thread as I have always enjoyed the friendly rivalry.

Now I just have to work out how to post my Excel file here. It doesn't work as it did over at STI. Watch this space.

Well, I've been kicked out of better places, as any of my relatives will tell you (because they've done the kicking).  Mukade! There are 100 reasons I like the name. Now if I can only remember it. Thanks, as always, to the bear for righting the ship.

Kuroimori goes to komusubi, taking Scott's place. Speaking of Scott, he was very harshly treated this time and falls all the way to M5. No other promotions or demotions for Mukade Beya!

I was never on Sumotalk, but I do play SG (sadly dropped way down to Ms17 after kyujo) and now I am intrigued by the existence of Mukade-beya.

I can't remember whether you play Bench Sumo or not but there is a competition between the various gaming stables each basho. A long time ago we extended the idea to Sumo Game, but the other stables don't do that. I wish they did...would love to see a bit more rivalry in the Masters and the World Championships of this type.

A lovely opening day for the Machine.  Losses only in Quad and Odd.  An 8-man GBL (2nd best lineup of the day) must surely be the highlight.

The highlight has to be the big Mukade bout between Rupert and Mark. Amazing!

Usual day-one lottery. You either got lucky or you didn't.

Off to a horrendous start...unusual for me, as I generally do OK on day one. I am already getting bad vibes about this basho...it is going to be a total lottery. Out of Chain, murdered elsewhere...the Panda is limping already. But there are 14 days to go!

I have no way of contacting Sebunshu or Hakubayama, sadly. I will leave them on the roster for the moment, though.

I have passed the word on to Sebunshu as he and I correspond by email.  I don't have any contact infor for Hakubayama though.

Hi boys........

Frosty in the house.....

Two things........

Will you using centipedes for sure?

How about THE MUK SPREADERS? Seems you spend most of your time in the dirt anyway...

Also specifically to Pandazuma......

Thanks for the advice a while back I tried what you suggested and my results have got worse since... .-)

I will say this once and deny it later.....

Good luck with the new/old ichimon,anyway...

Well, it was better than yesterday with strong wins in Bench, Toto and Quad and some signs of life from my pre-basho lads but I'm getting sick to the back teeth of my run of SG bad luck that now stretches back basically to when I became yokozuna. 13 AADs against last time. About the same before that. And this basho is off to the usual start with a 10-10 loss to go 0-2. All I can do really is just keep going and hope for a bit of luck or I'm going to be losing my rank if I'm not careful.

Overall though it isn't the disaster zone it looked yesterday. There are glimmers of potential. I'm aiming for my usual 50 Masters points but I'd actually be happy with 30 this time, the way things are going.

And to add insult to injury, I even managed to lose 10-10 in the smegging Baka Cup as well! (Blowingupfuriously...)

A stellar day 2 suffers just one (or two, with a miss in TUG) tremendous heartbreak.  Now back-to-back 8-man GBLs in Bench, but this one loses to another 8-man GBL.  This makes seven players in Bench makuuchi with back-to-back perfect days, and I'm the only one at 1-1!  A happy hit in Odd for 5th place probably takes the spotlight.

And now the personal highlight--after the 2-0 lead in the Baka Cup, of course--is a perhaps completely unprecedented 2-0 start in Toto!

Should be a hell of a day in TTT for day 3.  The Machine has the most eligible winner at 51.7% to win, and the most eligible loser at 50.7% to lose.

Bloody 14-14 loss in Bench with a 9GBL (!), wrong pick (Meisei) in TTT, but the rest looked fine. Lucky 9-9 TB win in SG to get 1-1, 15 points in DST, 2-0 in ISP, Toto and Chain Gang. Moreover, small win in Odd today plus a win in S4. Pre-basho games went also rather well so far.

Nightmare on Day 3. Losses in all daily games except Toto, where a 17-17 was enough to make it over the line. Of course pre-basho games went South too, only Juryo Game minimized the damage a bit.

Seb is flying the flag in Makuuchi...our only unbeaten lad now. Otherwise things look pretty damned ugly. Stefan and Seisset are taking fine advantage of easy opposition in Juryo and are also unbeaten. Ronnie looks OK at 2-1 in Makushita.

As usual, upset day equals total disaster for the Panda...and today was no different. I managed to squeak a win in Bench, where I am 2-1 (by far my best performance in a daily this basho apart from Quad where I have the same score). The high-level comedy continues in SG where YET AGAIN I walked into a monster score, this time from Susanoo, who successfully avoided most of the idiots that I picked...including Takayasu - a staggeringly prophetic move. I am now so sick of this nonsense that from tomorrow I am adopting an entirely new SG strategy, because it's obvious the sumo gods have no love for me in this game...time to take things into my own furry paws! At least I snuck a win over Scott in the Baka Cup. 1-2 there. The pre-basho scene is not much better but there is at least a little hope in a few games, notably Oracle and Salarycap. Some potential in the two Japanese doppelganger games too. But this could be my worst basho for years...and I'd be overjoyed with 30 Masters points if so.

I believe The Machine takes upset days even harder than the Panda does--thankfully compensated by perhaps doing ever so slightly better, at least in SG, on... whatever non-upset days are called.  Day 3 was a clean sweep of losses.  Not even a single squeaked win anywhere.

Still, two out of three days isn't bad so far, and there's a lot of basho left.
