The Asahigaoka high club has started from zero in 2011. At first they had drawn a circle in the courtyard and trained there, the next year they got a dohyo to train. As the 2 Mongolian exchange students joined in 2016, the club for the 1st time took part in the interhigh team event. The club now has 7 members.

Dalai-kun won the Kanto mini-kokutai (juniors), preliminaries for the Fukui happy kokutai end of the month, he won also with the team. After Choijil started at the interhigh, apparently it's now his turn again

The Kanagawa team, for the first time runner up at the kokutai juniors, in the middle in the back Choijil- and Dalai-kun, team coach was their Asahigaoka high coach, the 2 on the right from Mukainooka high and Nakamura from Keio high.

The first and last time the 2 Mongolians could start together in a team at a major tournament. They want to continue studies together, at a physical education university (so maybe Nittaidai, not Nichidai etc.), and sumo as well. http://www.townnews.co.jp/0607/2018/10/13/452802.html

I could be mistaken, but I thought I saw Ochil training at Isegahama recently, already with a topknot. They currently have no foreigner spot, but looking at their heya members I don't see any active rikishi it could be.

Could that be him on the right?  The face and body look similar - check the video below for more shots.

They've both done well, but Dalai's missed a lot of competition, presumably due to injury.

Choijil has won 2 East Japan weight class tournaments, made the best 4 of a couple national events, and finished top 8 at the All Japan Championship. He's also good in team competition and is a regular on Nittaidai's 3-man and 5-man teams, which are the best in college sumo. With Hanada and Kawabuchi not active at the moment, he's probably close to being among the top 5 or 6 competitors in college sumo.

top 8 in all japan means he gets a Sd90 rank right? Great momentum and hopefully both are picked up by one of the 19 stables without a foreigner.

So far there was no mention that the 2 year validity of the qualifications is over, we just had Kayo for Natsu with a 2020 qualification. Both are 4th years, he graduates next March, we will see.

Dergerbat was impressive. I have seen him at a few tournaments now, and though he has no big results yet he's shown a high level of ability and should do well regardless of the route he takes after graduation.

Circling back to Choijil, who is joining alongside Dalai.

 

No mention of a sandanme tsukedashi qualification - does this mean it's expired in the meantime, or is it only due to be announced before his first basho?

Choijil earned his Ms15TD last November, so he'd still have it.

Dalai earned SdTD at least twice previously, but they would've expired by now.

A report from NiTele's News Every on the sumo club of Asahigaoka high, where Onokatsu and Kyokukaiyu started their sumo life in Japan as the first Mongolians at the school  - with now Dulguun Nyambayar as the top and also 2nd year Bat-erdene Batbold presented, who wants to become a teacher - of course more of it is about the Japanese members
