Kyokufuji 64 Posted September 16, 2018 I was traveling through the Kansai region in November and watched quite a bit of TV coverage of the Harumafuji incident. I watched a few matches on TV as well. For no real reason, I searched for sumo on YouTube and caught the last couple days of the May tournament as they happened. Really enjoyed it! Nagoya sealed the deal, and I’m definitely a sumo fan now. I’ve been waking up early to watch the highlights before I go to work. The other sports I enjoy have gotten stale/unpredictable over the last few years (MMA, Formula 1, MotoGP) or are simply infrequent or event-based (World Series of Poker, Curling, Tour de France, and biathlon), so the event cadence, and the fact that there are rarely matches that mean absolutely nothing is a breath of fresh air. Oh, the part where I can watch a whole division’s matches in 20-60 minutes is pretty great too! Valiantly trying to get friends and coworkers to watch too, but it’s not going so well. Favorites so far: Tochinoshin, Takayasu, Takakeisho, Chiyonokuni, Abi, Chiyomaru, Aminishiki. 5
Shio-kago 180 Posted September 16, 2018 Cheers, neighbor! Everyone here has been very nice to me so far and I'm sure you'll get the same generous welcome. It's comforting to have evidence of another human being liking sumo within 500 miles of me.
