Kintamayama 45,516 Posted September 30, 2018 Did I miss the thread or did nobody bother to mention this? 70th Yokozuna Harumafuji's danpatsushiki (retirement ceremony) was held today at the Kokugikan. He did his final dohyo-iri with Kakuryuu as tsuyuharai and Hakuhou as tachimochi. Many celebs and athletes were there to bid farewell to Harumafuji's sumo life. 400 people snipped his topknot, ending of course with the big snip by his Oyakata Isegahama. Clearly, he holds no hard feelings towards him, even though his debilitating injury occurred during a bout with the Mongolian. Also noticed that most of the Mongolians who took part in the hair-snipping ritual gave Harumafuji what looked like a kiss (actually meant as a "cheek sniff"). Kakuryu was about the only exception. Wonder why? Cheek kiss is usually given by an elder or senior, so for Kakiryu it was not appropriate to treat his senpai this way.
