A dark shadow is cast over a castle in Ramat Gan. Hunched over his computer, an old man is holding a sufganiya in one hand and typing slowly with the other. He appears to be well-trained in  one hand typing, but that's another story. "I am late.." he mutters to himself as the hot jam oozes out of the sufganiya. The hanukkiah is burning with three candles-the two regular and the shamash. The old man, living alone now with his trusted dog Yuki tries to come up with a witty invitation to his GTB game. He has writer's block. "I have writer's block!!", he says to himself out loud, too loud, startling Yuki. The 4th sufganiyah he just devoured is sitting heavily on his chest. "I must start a diet on Sunday," he says, as he struggles to get up to make himself a corned beef on rye with mayonnaise, tomatoes and pickles double sandwich. December and still no sign of real winter in Ramat Gan. Drrring drrring? Nothing to see here today, folks. Nothing at all. A bell tolls somewhere. Maybe in Ireland. The night is quiet, the Prime Minister is still under investigation, and the old man is dying to finish watching "Narcos- Mexico" on Netflix. "Wouldn't it be cool if the guys from the DEA were nicknamed "Narcops"? he asks Yuki "No, you fat bastard!" answers the dog and turns away. He sits down to have his gigantic sandwich anyway, as the dog farts awkwardly. We shall now leave him to his meal, then. Hopefully, he will live to see another day.

In case you were wondering, this is an invitation to play GTB (Guess the Banzuke), the only sumo game played between basho come what May. Or July. Or November. Rules: Guess the Banzuke. Simple. You get two points for a bulls-eye and one point for just getting the rank right. You get no points for playing with the dreidel. Tiebreakers - Most total guesses, then, we check the banzuke backwards - getting the lower half right will be important.  The most correct guesses in the last ten places will win the tiebreaker. If still tied , we go up a ranking at a time like a penalty shootout. It's up to you to check if you are on the list of entries. It's going to be your fault if you don't notice that your entry went missing in the Internet void. No late entries will be expected or accepted.

Question about scoring - for Yokozuna picks, is a wrong Y2e pick worth 1 or 0? E.g. If I  guess Kakuryu as Y2e but he actually ends up staying at Y1W. I had assumed 0, but comments in the forum elsewhere suggested 1.

So, what's the deal with Takanoiwa? Will he be ranked? Will there be a blank spot like back when? If so, how will it be scored? Many rhetorical questions..

I was going to ask this too.

I assume that the entry won't allow 41 so everyone will just have to put Takanoiwa in as if he were still active. That would then ensure that no one would score with Takanoiwa and of course also that the maximum possible score would be 82.

He resigned before the Banzuke announcement... so they could still even it out if they wanted to but hasn't the committee met already?
Are there any similar cases in the past that I don't know about? How did the committee handle it on those occasions?

They blanked out the name on the banzuke for the rank at which they had placed the missing rikishi.

I don't think Takanoiwa is important enough to get the blank-out treatment like Asashoryu did. Everybody else* who did get blanked was dismissed, not merely intai.

* Yeah, yeah, Tokitsuumi.

I think that he should be treated as usual. If he's on the banzuke and you guessed his spot-the usual. If he'a blanked out- no points for everyone. Seems quite straightforward to me..

I went with Kisenosato at Y1e. I figure this is his last chance to hold that rank so they'll use his showing up in November to give it to him. Intai from Y1e is always nice.
