Regularly performed before the Kyushu basho during the matsuri featuring all the Kyushu born sekitori.
wys 55 Posted January 16, 2019 I am really looking forward to the match between my man Takakeisho and Mitakeumi. These two tadpoles are looking really genki this basho and I predict one of them will at least get the jun yusho. As things look right now, I feel like Mitakeumi is the only person other than Hakuho and possibly Nishikigi who can give Takakeisho a serious challenge. I don't think he can put 2 - 3 strong basho together due to his injury prone back. He'd be extremely lucky to get to Ozeki. With Hak & Kak's best years behind & Kise retiring, someone will surface to take their place as Yokuza. I'd like to believe it's one of the up and coming ones - Mita, Takakeisho, even someone not in the radar yet.

It is common etiquette for wrestlers in that situation to bow as an apology to their opponent and the head shimpan. No, it was Daieishou-you clearly are not watching my videos.. The other one went missing at some point between the shitaku-beya and the dohyo. Tokyo police are hunting a bald man seen running out of the arena clutching the zori to his chest while loudly proclaiming himself president of the International Konosuke Appreciation Society. You botched the translation, sir. Should be "Tokyo police are hunting for an extremely good looking bald man seen running out of the arena clutching the zori to his chest while loudly proclaiming himself president of the International Konosuke Appreciation Society". 3

sumojoann 1,268 Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) I just saw on the news that Kisenosato announced his retirement although apparently it was known several hours ago. Edited January 16, 2019 by sumojoann My information was out of date.
Eikokurai 3,437 Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) I just noticed Aoiyama lost by hansoku. What was he disqualified for? Hair pull? Edited January 16, 2019 by Eikokurai

I believe Aoiyama's hand got tangled with Onosho's hair as the latter was falling down. That's telling it on the side of Aoiyama. Yeah, Mitakeumi!!! Take a note, big dudes. That's how you beat Takakeisho's frontal attack. Use you weight and strength to push him back. I still say Takaeisho is on his way to 11+ wins for promotion to Ozeki rank. Tochinoshin to go kyujo at this rate .... Tamawashi bullied him over. Edited January 16, 2019 by robnplunder
Jabbamaru 167 Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) Mita gives no space to Sato, and i guess thats the way to puts the little bugger in trouble... nice win... Tochis's kiujo is on the way...He is totally helpless 3 kadoban ozeki next basho? That will be fun to watch...Goeido got two hands in but no power to move Ichi, he even got blue lips... robnplunder 976 Posted January 16, 2019 Goeido gave his best but unfortunately caught Ichinojo on his good basho run. Ichi looks healthy and strong, will be tough to beat.

Karasukurai 166 Posted January 16, 2019 Mita showed how to close down Taka for a convincing win. Good effort by Ryuden and Kaisei is still on a roll. I felt Aoiyama was very unlucky, totally out-gunned Onosho and the replay showed a flat hand but the rules are rules, intent doesn't seem to come into it. Ichinojo has found his back-bone on the tawara and isn't just giving up as he has done in the past - I like this Ichi because this version can go places. Oh, and the elephant has finally been removed from the room! I hope Kise has better luck in his new sumo career.
Amamaniac 2,079 Posted January 16, 2019 (edited) Let's see if Takakeisho's upcoming opponents take a page out of Mitakeumi's book. We could still see a Takakeisho makekoshi as predicted by the "extremely good looking bald man" holding a lightly-used zori. Either way, Mitakeumi has all the makings of a future, dare I say, Yokozuna. He has what I see as close to ideal build, and he is definitely not a one-trick pony. But what impressed me today was that he kept an emotionless bushido face walking back to the shitakubeya. Inside, he must have been overjoyed at defeating the upstart Sekiwake that so many others are having difficulty with. He leads the head-to-head 6-3 and has won their past four meetings.

It was a disgrace - Onosho was already flying out and it was obvious that there was no pull whatsoever, just as Onosho was falling, Aoiyama's fingers slipped towards his hair. His hand was actually on his back when Onosho started charging towards the stands. 7
