The Czech sumo union has a website, but it hasn't received maintenance for a long time.

http://sumo.cz

No pics on google, no nothing.

That's just a (bad) sumo themed hotel. Couldn't find any indicators they got a dohyo.

Exactly the same. The article is from 10/2010. I'm 100% positive a sumo dohyo in prague wouldn't go unnoticed nowadays and there would be at least something. I googled, i qwanted, i even DuckDuckGoed - or is it DuckDuckWent? - but sadly to no avail.

The article talks of a Prague dohyo and the reporter was actually there and of a future plan for an arena. I guess the dohyo closed and the plan didn't reach the actual stages, but there at least was a dohyo in Prague, so I remembered something right.

Seems like. Would be interesting to hear why they closed down. Dwindling interest or were they driven out and found no new space? We need someone to czech it out.

Shiroikuma was a prominent member here back in the day. Takanoyama the legendary was his deshi, sort of.

I'm pretty sure the sumo hotel and the czech sumo association are one in the same, the owner is the same guy for both (shiroikuma), and the restaurant information of the hotel says you can see real live sumo on a real dohyo.

Well, have a look at the recensions. And the website is badly outdated, like the one of the czech sumo association. Yes, there is a dohyo, hardly visible on a single pic in the background. Maybe it's still there, but again no indications apart from one text on that website. A real clay dohyo and half naked fatsos pushing around each other wearing diapers - in yurop! - should alert the internet. Just compare the google search for czech or brazilian sumo.

Let's agree on this: Brazil has the only clay dohyo outside of japan used for actual training on a regular basis.

I'm not sure if I should reopen this discussion, but I have to say, that we have a clay dohyo in Hungary too. Or at least we had one in a small town called Leányfalu.

This is a picture of Földesi István (on the left) and a young Masutoo (Tóth Attila, lately retired hungarian pro rikishi) back from 2004, just before a national championship bout, so way before his pro career.

I think the dohyo is still there, but I'm not sure if it is in use.

Bicycle shorts under the mawashi should be banned in all forms of sumo. Cheeks out or get out, imo.

Fair enough but I think they look respectable.

Even fairer, make participants in the Tour de France wear mawashi.

If they did that, I could totally compete in the Tour de France. Assuming I could get my preferred yotsu grip on a decent cyclist, of course.
