Gurowake 4,107 Posted March 14, 2019 (edited) So, uh, what are they planning on doing the last 3 days? Either they're going to break the usual top 4 round robin, or they'll have only 2 intra-sanyaku matches instead of 3 on one of those days as there aren't enough matches left among those not in the top 4 to have a 3rd on all three of those days. I don't really have any idea which way they are going, but perhaps the lack of 3 Yokozuna has made them decide to not be as strict in having a top 4 round robin even when it's quite easily possible. 7. I was thinking the same thing. I have a new workaround for how they might do things, but it's wacky and I don't trust it.

I looked at it more, and the way they may be headed is instead of enforcing the round-robin, they're enforcing Y v O as late as possible. If you have a top 4 round robin with 2Y3O, you can't have the 2Y face the 3rd O on the same day to keep them as late as possible. So you shift one of the top four matches to Day 12 and put Tochinoshin against Kakuryu on Day 13 or 14. The Ozeki whose match against Kakuryu is on Day 12 then takes on Tamawashi (or Takakeisho) on the same day as Tochinoshin v Kakuryu, leaving Tamawashi v Tochinoshin for the other day's 3rd match. Or something like that. There are a number of options. Edited March 15, 2019 by Gurowake
