M2e-M5e, Shimanoumi, and M15e-M17e will probably be decisive this basho. The last one looks like it'll cost a lot of players a lot of points if the committee have actually promoted more than four (unless it's just a straight swap of Takagenji for Chiyoshoma in the maku-jiri slot).

What do Korinokoshi and Ginketsune Mean?

I looked them up on google and the sumo glossary but coundn't find them........

No major absences this time, with the top 57 players of the incoming ranking all entered for the Natsu competition. 58th-ranked Mariohana, a former #1 player, is the highest non-entry, and with it being a second consecutive absence he'll be headed down the table now. The four higher-ranked players who also missed Haru basho with kosho are all back in action (#21 Gooner, #43 Ketsukai, #53 Tupayumi and #56 Veshana).

If I'm not mistaken we have three debutants for this edition (Goshobiyama, Jemuzu and Rainoyama), as well as two previously ranked players returning (Domichi and Ulsimitsuki).

Basically an unchanged lead for Chiyonosawa over his two closest pursuers after last year's scores are taken off, with the 0.17 ranking points equating to about 8 to 10 in-game points, which is making it very difficult to unseat him this time. Quite a turnaround from last basho when the difference between 1st and 5th was smaller than it is between 1st and 2nd now. Gurowake et al. are already 13+ points behind, and at the risk of being surprised by a lead change yet again, I really don't think anyone besides the top 3 has a shot at the ranking lead here.

As mentioned two months ago when he was kyujo, Gooner's oldest counted score has been a disastrous 1-14 converted record from Hatsu 2018, and now that it's finally dropping off his tally it's no surprise that the former 5-time winner is set to make a major upwards move and return to more familiar ranking positions in or near the top 10. Taxinohana and Reonito are the other two potentially big beneficiaries this basho, having placed outside the top 60 in Natsu basho a year ago.

Well, I can only go up from there aha, or can I ? I had a lot of fun despite getting so many things wrong, which is what matters the most anyway ! I'll do my best next time ! :) edit: I just looked at my first draft and it was actually much closert than the one I submitted, maybe I'll stick with the first draft next time !

72 if I checked correctly. Two West/East flips (Nishikigi/Asanoyama and Shimanoumi/Tochiozan) for minus 8, and two East/West flips (Tamawashi/Chiyotairyu and Sadanoumi/Chiyomaru) for minus 4. Top 5 result?

I'd say, probably the winner. I think I got around 59. I was doing okay till M10 or so then it all fell apart.

This is one thing I will never get in the making of the banzuke. What is the function of putting them this way? Was it just they were East or West so leave them as the side they were on? Having decided they should both be M3 what is the function of putting Chiyotairyu as east?

Good day GTB players. Thanks to the never-ending efforts of Andoreasu, the results for the Natsu 2019 edition of GTB are already in. The winner you ask? His first second third fourth fifth sixth seventh eighth yusho, ladies and gentlemen- Asashosakari!! Wow indeed. He is now at the top of the non-banzuke as well. Congratulations.

And now, please take a moment to remember one of our distinguished long time players- Feginowaka, who passed away recently.  He will be sorely missed.

Well done, Pierre. A typically excellent result. And thanks to Moti and Andoreasu for your efforts.

69 for third is fine but I am irritated at myself for two dumb choices that I really shouldn't have made. First, I got Kotoshogiku and Hokutofuji the wrong way round. Dumb. And then I screwed up with Tamawashi and Daieisho. Even with Tamawashi in the M3E slot for a hit and Daieisho in the right slot - a fairly easy pick - along with Giku-Hoku correct would have given me 74. Don't see how I could have got more though.

Helps in my quest to quickly overhaul Scott's lead in the World Championships at least. ;)

I've got two east-west flips and three west-east flips, plus I was too nice to kotoshogiku.  In all cases I gave the 'luck' to the wrong guy--the guy going down, except for giku.  

Sigh.  This game is hard.

Must admit I was a bit surprised to find out my points were enough for the win, even if 72 is on the high side historically. After seeing where I'd lost points I was pretty sure that somebody else will have avoided enough of those errors to top that score, but I guess not.  Though as the results indicate it was in fact a pretty tight race, which is often not the case with a 70+ points yusho. (Compare e.g. last basho where the top four scores were 72, 66, 63 and 60.)

On a side note - the GTB archives have already been updated, including the selection stats. 16 players did get M12e Shimanoumi right. More than half the entrants expected a demotion for Chiyoshoma.

Two changes to the top ten ranks after this edition. Flohru drops out after a year-long stay, while Andonishiki managed half that with three basho in green. They are replaced by a returnee and, for the second basho in a row, a newcomer playing their 15th basho.

Gooner is back for the first time in a little over three years, thanks to his jun-yusho here. It's his 39th basho in the top ten which finally breaks his tie with Bafa for 4th place on the all-time list. Meanwhile, making his top ten debut is Shatsume, who did enough to just edge out Flohru for the #10 rank. (Really unlucky for Flohru, who is on a run of 12 consecutive kachi-koshi)

Congratulations to returning #1 Asashosakari, who surpasses Ekigozan's long-standing record for most GTB yusho.

Taxinohana and Manatsumai are the 22nd and 23rd players to reach 4,000 career points.

Nagoya will be the 100th basho for the ranking system. Feginowaka spent more than three-quarters of that time inside the top ten ranks, setting a high benchmark for consistently strong results over the years. It's sad that we won't see his name in green again, but some of the records he set will stand for a while yet.
