ALAKTORN 346 Posted July 22, 2019 (edited) Don’t think anybody else mentioned him so I will, Kyokutenhō. Even when really old he still had amazing nage technique. Whom I really miss most is prime Hakuhō, though. …And all of his best rivals, as if Hakuhō were in his prime now he’d just be killing rikishi left and right apart from Kakuryū. Katooshu 3,182 Posted July 23, 2019 (edited) I've been following for only about 4 years now, so I don't go far back with anyone. I was a big Kise fan however, and when I see him now as an oyakata it seems so cruel that after years of being an iron man resistant to major injury, he would suffer a virtually career-ending injury almost as soon as it looked like he'd gotten over the blocks that had held him back for so long. sumojoann 1,263 Posted July 27, 2019 Harumafuji, definitely! When I first started watching sumo in 2013 (has it really been 6 years?), I first noticed 1) Hakuho and 2) Harumafuji. Those 2 stood out. Hakuho is and was the GOAT, but Harumafuji was also exciting to watch. His tachi-ai's were so explosive! In an interview, he said that when he faced anyone on the dohyo, that rikishi became his enemy for those few moments. I also miss Homasho. I miss his sincere devotion to sumo, his respect for it's traditions, and most important, his beautiful deep bows. I miss seeing Terunofuji when he was his healthy self in Makuuchi. He was a pleasure to watch. I thought he would be our next Yokozuna. I could kick myself because I had the opportunity to see Asashoryu live in Japan around 2008 while we were on vacation. At that time, I had no interest in sumo, so I turned down the invitation. I'm sure my attitude would have changed overnight had I accepted that invitation and witnessed Asashoryu on the dohyo. Churaumi 728 Posted July 31, 2019 Harumafuji, for sure. He kept things interesting as a spoiler for Hakuho at a time when Kakuryu wasn’t quite up to the task yet. sekitori 492 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) Chiyonofuji. When I started watching sumo, I noticed a rikishi who looked completely different from all the others. Although he didn't weigh very much, he was very athletic and extremely quick. However, he was 25 years old and although he had reached komusubi, he had never won a yusho. It was so good to see him win his first one. I thought it would be wonderful if he could win another two or three before his career was over. As things eventally turned out, he won 30 more..
