Can’t wait. I’ll stay up and watch live, I’m bummed we won’t get to see asanoyama vs kakuryu

The revised schedule for Day 2 is out, Okinoumi now faces Goeido instead of Kakuryu (among a whole host of changed matchups, obviously).

Ikioi still has plenty of bandages, but even with one at the elbow he threw Yago with ease.

Strong tachiaii, too. That was satisfying to watch. He looks strong and confident.

Ura, Day 1

I found myself saying “Come on Teronofuji!” Out loud for the first time maybe ever. I’ve become a fan, against all odds, because I admire his tenacity to make this comeback.

Did Terunofuji win?

I'm confused.  Kakuryu seems to be out.  The stream did not show a dohyoiri by the top-ranked Yokozuna, and Shikimori Inosuke was on duty for Hakuho's dohyoiri.  Seems like a very last-minute withdrawal.  Sigh.

Yes, he pulled out very late with back trouble.

Tsurugisho beats Enho for 5 straight times, all with different kimarite.   Can he go six wins for six different kimarite the next time he faces Enho?

Am I right in thinking that Tochinoshin needs 10 wins to regain Ozeki rank and Takayasu needs 8 wins to retain Ozeki rank?

Is anyone on an Ozeki run?

Just for reaching 33 wins in 3 straight basho, he'd need 12. But i'm not sure if it would be enough. Takakeisho recently did it with 9-6, 13-2 and 11-4, so it's possible.

12 is the general and his own opinion - he had a 9-6 in Nagoya. He first had announced he'll go for the 12, but just before the basho only for at least 10, to keep the ozeki run properly alive

Would Mitakeumui's consistency at Sekiwake count for something?

I really don't know. Mitakeumi has 2 bouts vs. Yokozuna, both lost and 2 bouts vs. Ozeki, both won in his run so far. That's 4 Y/O matches in 2 basho. Takakeisho had 10 Y/O bouts in the 2 basho starting his run and won 4, and had a 3-2 in the final basho. They could argue that with these depleted Y/O ranks, a run starting with 9-6 is not what they want to see...but what do i round eyed devil know about what the NSK/YDC-guys are thinking.
