My ideal scenario is the winner of their match-up tomorrow loses on senshuraku, while Takakeisho wins out, leading to a 2- or 3-way play-off. I only got that one technique prize so far.." Kotoshougiku, ends his losing streak at five, needs one more win for a total of 700 career Makuuchi wins: "All I can do is study so as to not give up. I'm willing to suffer as much as needed if I am doomed to suffer.." Endou, kachikoshi at Maegashira 1: " I'm happy I got a kachikoshi in the first basho of the year. Akinomaki 40,328 Posted January 24, 2020 (edited) Sanspo mentions the possibility of Tokushoryu getting paired against Takakeisho on day 15 - I said I don't think they'll do this, so it should be quite likely they'll do it. Takakeisho is the highest ranked rikishi active in the basho and Tokushoryu the lowest ranked in makuuchi. Since the start of Showa, only 2 times a maegashira was in the final bout of the basho, last time had the (first) yusho of m5 Tochiazuma I, Hatsu 1972, with a win over ozeki Kiyokuni. If Takakeisho wins tomorrow, then he should be given the direct opportunity to wrestle the yusho from Tokushoryu - if he wins as well, in 2 attempts with the same opponent, else Asanoyama could be enough as a test for the makujiri man, since Takakeisho is then out of it anyway. Shodai could win tomorrow and lose the next day, in that case this extremely rare top-bottom last senshuraku bout would serve to decide who meets Shodai in the ketteisen - and rule out a tomoesen with 3. So they'll have to wait till after the 2nd to last bout of the day to decide and then publish the day 15 torikumi - expect them to be really late. He’s the lowest-ranked guy in the division, so his whole schedule is against better rikishi. He’s the opposite of a Yokozuna, who always get easy schedules against guys ranked lower than them. At least he's meeting only those with bad records now - hopefully he can get a win tomorrow as well. Shodai is now the man who always gets the better of his opponent, Tokushoryu the one who always survives. Kizakiumi also won: for some the old way to heal your injuries on the dohyo still works. Akinomaki 40,328 Posted January 25, 2020 (edited) Kiribayama's double digits as new makuuchi in the past were a sure kanto-sho, recently this rule is nearly back, but a bit earlier for quite a while that was no guarantee for a prize. With that many rikishi deserving a sansho this basho, they might put the kanto-sho for Kiribayama on condition that he wins his 11th.
