Valuable (PR) information by Hakuho: the World Plus digital magazine app has the BBM SUMO magazine for (presently) free - also as PDF download (haven't managed to access the download from a PC yet) - at the moment the 2020 January edition from before the basho and that from January 2018.

Edit: in the Mongolian section, there is the Mongolian version of the "Hakuho Sho Treasure Book" PR photo Magazine, with a calligraphy of his shikona on the cover - (gif) animation contained

Due to Hakuho promoting the World Plus app - a bout was skipped because of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP_x6rBmwHg&t=7h32m15s-  I found on a Mongolian site a report about the platform, created by a team of Mongolian developers and launched in Japan (surely Hakuho is involved somehow)  https://www.montsame.mn/en/read/202618

Hakuho is apparently a PR ambassador for this project. On Oct. 2nd, the Asia launch PR event was celebrated in the Teikoku hotel http://www.ttzixunw.com/html/news/20191008/5171889235198540401.shtml

The platform now contains free magazines as teasers - mainly fashion magazines, some business papers - and BBM's SUMO: so we can assume that the thing is especially meant for sujo. Of course it is planned to sell mags - we'll see if it will be a nice and easy way to obtain sumo magazines https://www.wplus.world/

Hakuho promotes it on all channels:

On the English side, only the magazine TOKYO is of some interest - it shortly mentions sumo in the kokugikan

Thanks for that. The app seems to work on the China App Store which is unusual so I’m hopeful I can get the magazine.

Hmm. Nope. It was included on the website but doesn’t seem to be there in the app.

Oh! It’s there. I guess the app didn’t refresh initially after I selected Japanese.

Those are some 70s-width lapels. The kipper tie hasn't made a comeback, though.

Well, he didn't get his style sense from his Oyakata, who is a pretty dapper figure in western dress.

Good news, though; Hakuho could audition for Guys and Dolls in that suit.

Maybe he thinks it's slimming.

That reminds me of the David Mitchell rant on QI regarding vertical and horizontal stripes on clothes...

Or Magaki really likes pinstripes.

He's still also having to keep in shape for his danpatsu, so he's not going to match his oyakata for style anytime soon either. But I wonder what he'll look like slim.

Recently, he's worn some other suits that made him look quite dapper.  One was navy, and a black one when he was doing guest commentary on NHK TV during the Kyushu basho.  You probably remember the bright blue one he wore.  The color was a bit bright but it fit nicely.  This pinstripe is a little laughable.

Hakuho has a part in the Olympics - but maybe not as planned: he'll be a torchbearer to run in the Olympic torch relay in Sumida-ward, where the kokugikan is located.

Hakuho has a tough schedule: the torch relay in Sumida ward is on July 19th, the day after day 15 of the July basho, which is planned to be in Nagoya http://www.sumo.or.jp/Admission/isolate/606/. The 2nd part has the kokugikan as the goal, planned arrival at the kokugikan 16:01h JST, logically Hakuho should be running as the last to be the one there. https://gtimg.tokyo2020.org/image/upload/production/lxwifuxxyoqkvommhxqb.pdf

Hakuho was not there as torch relay runner for Corona and schedule reasons, but he was at the Olympic museum today and received a torch and uniform, like those who really did run. Torch by Olympic committee head Seiko Hashimoto

The narrower pinstripe suit is quite normal in the business world. The wide, bold, pinestripe usually is for celebratory occassions. What the issue here is that the button down shirt does not go well with it, plus the narrow monocolor tie and finally the wide lapel. I know I know he is a big guy and he needs wider lapels but I would have gone for a bit narrower one.

Magaki - Hakuhou will be throwing the ceremonial first pitch at the Tokyo dome at the Giants -Yakult game on July 7th, two days from now. This will be the first time in 14 years that such a ceremony occurs at the Tokyo Dome. "I'm really nervous," quipped MH. He has already done that back in 2008 in the opener between the Giants and the Dragons and has been identified as a Giants fan. He threw a 120 kph pitch for a perfect strike back then. "I wanna do that again," he said back then when he was 23 years old. Now he will..

A 75 mph pitch is astonishing for a person who hasn't specifically trained to throw a baseball fast.  I am skeptical.  And for a 37-year old without a lot of training, throwing above 50 mph is unlikely.

Good plan, but on the very first step it will become apparent that they are mostly the same people.

I wouldn't be that surprised for him to get above 55 or 60. I threw 55 on the radar gun over the plate a few years back as a 30+ year old with an idea of mechanics and weight transfer but almost no arm strength. At 23 with enough about him to toss a big bopper like Kaio around, I think Hakuho would have easily had the arm strength to throw 70+, it's just a question of his mechanics and if he knew how to get that kind of speed. Even now at 37, I would posit he can clear 60 if he's throwing hard.

Throwing 75 for a strike is the really remarkable part, IMHO, if it is true. Anyone can throw hard but throwing hard with control/command is what makes it an art.

Knowing Hakuhō I wouldn't put it past him to pay a couple of visits to a pitching range and try out a few so as not to embarrass himself on the big day. With such a big name fan as him, I'm sure there's some pros who are willing to oblige and drop by to give him some tips.

I don't doubt that!

The main issue would be if he knew the proper mechanics.  I didn't learn how to throw a baseball correctly until I was in high school, despite having played for many years.  And when I went back to see my high school play many years later, several members of the team made the same mistake that I was making before high school.  The proper way to snap your wrist to get the most zip is a bit unintuitive, and most people just push the ball instead.
