So, how will the top of the banzuke look in a little over a year from now?

(This is a difficult question, I think!)

Please leave your actual prediction for the top two ranks for the January 2021 banzuke in the comments below like this...

Elsa Y1 Anna
Sven Y2
Marshmallow O1 Kristoff
Olaf O2 Oaken

etc

- then we can see who is closest at the end of the year, to award a yusho for this poll.

Takakeisho Y
Terunofuji O1 Asanoyama
Takayasu  O2 Hokutofuji

I'm going with the re-promotion of 2 former ozeki during 2021, along with Takakeisho taking the belt during 2020. I also hesitated to bring another Ozeki in, but 6 guys at the top seems a bit too much.

Hak and Kak to retire.

Takakeisho to Yokozuna

Asanoyama, Hokotofuji and Shodai as Ozeki

My mistake (now corrected above). This should be for the January 2021 banzuke, not 2022.

Damn, @Oshirokita just read my mind !

No Yokozuna.
Takakeisho O Asanoyama.

But since it will be a tie, then I'll change the order of my Ozeki and predict:

Asanoyama O Takakeisho.

Hakuho Y

Takakeishou O Asanoyama

Hakuho will remain somewhat competitive / oft injured but decide to hang on to pursue some obscure record like most career wins by a yokozuna returning from kyujo.

I agree. The rest is a crap shoot. For the rest of sanyaku I expect Mitakeumi, Hokutofuji, Yutakayama and Takayasu.

Y Takakeisho

O Asanoyama

Mitakeumi level of ambition has convinced me that he can fill the void left by Goeidou's retirement, but it will take until the second basho of 2021 for him to get the mercy promotion.

I’ll join the consensus of Takakeisho and Asanoyaka as the top 2. Both as Ozeki though. Hakuho and Kakuryu both to retire before November.

Kakuryu Y

Takakeisho O Asanoyama

I think Hakuho will retire after the olympics but Kakuryu will remain until mid-2021

Takakeisho stays ozeki without kadoban barring injury, and I see Asanoyama joining the ozeki rank at the end of the year. Let's say 1 basho after Hakuho retires, just to have a shot at having a M18w on the banzuke

Overall, we do not think that the current crop of Yokozunas will last the year - and half of us expect Takakeisho will be ranked at Yokozuna by the year's end. A lot of support for Asanoyama to become an Ozeki!

Time to start wrapping up the annual polls!

All three of Hakuho, Kakuryu and Takakeisho will be ranked in the top two ranks on the January banzuke. Only Jejima (out of 29) predicted that!

Jejima was also the only person who correctly predicted that Hakuho and Kakuryu would be Yokozuna and Takakeisho would not be.

For the third question about who would be ranked at Ozeki, Kintamayama got two correct (2 predictions, both correct). Some other players also got two correct, but got at least one wrong (i.e. 3 predictions, two correct).

Jejima got one correct (out of two predictions) for the last question - but not a complete blow-out.

I am more than happy to award myself the yusho for this poll! (Bigfish...)
