Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 21, 2020 An introductory note: Gokushindo is kyujo among the additional 7 rikishi and has been excluded from all calculations, and so the maximum tie-breaker score was only 24 to start off, not 25. Day 7 Starting us off for the basho was Shoji, but probably not the way he wanted it: 0-4 makekoshi. 12 players correctly predicted that. Day 8 The first off-ballot result came in courtesy of rookie Araoyama who clinched his 5th KK with four straight wins to join the next ballot. Day 9 And another day with a result only relevant to the next edition: makekoshi for Asakoki in upper makushita, so no ballot appearance for him. Day 10 Finally the day to get the ball rolling in earnest: Early 8-2 kachikoshi for young Kotoshoho in juryo, while veteran Akua went the other way at 2-8. The positive result was selected near unanimously, while the Akua MK attracted only just over half of all entrants. Another three backuppers decided their fates early as well, going the way of makekoshi. No ballot entry for Oshoryu, Yokoe and Marusho, all having missed out on their 5th KK. The first standings: Day 10: 3/18 Decisions, TB 2-18 Pos Player Pts TB 1 Asashosakari 3 12 1 Tenshinhan 3 12 3 Sakura 3 13 4 chishafuwaku 3 14 4 Holleshoryu 3 14 4 Rocks 3 14 7 Katsunorifuji 3 15 7 ryafuji 3 15 9 Pitinosato 2 10 10 Tsuchinoninjin 2 11 11 Mmikasazuma 2 13 11 Pandaazuma 2 13 11 wolfgangho 2 13 14 Ryoshishokunin 2 14 15 Profomisakari 1 14 16 Athenayama 1 16 17 Jejima 1 20 18 WAKATAKE 0
Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 21, 2020 Day 11 Two lower division results on this day, a pair of kachikoshi for Kitanowaka and Suzuki in makushita, the latter in his division debut. 15 correct picks on Kitanowaka, and 15 wrong ones on Suzuki. Two entrants were proven right on both, and consequently that also means that two others got both picks wrong. One point for everybody else. Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 21, 2020 Day 12 An action-packed day with no less than 6 new results! Two fan favourites reached decisive scores with Enho falling to MK while Terunofuji clinched his kachikoshi. The other four scores came in among toriteki, led by a makekoshi for much-hyped Roga. Things went better for ex-maegashira Amakaze and newbies Daikisho and Yoshii, who all secured their KKs. 3 majority picks, 3 not, for a total of 57 out of 108 possible points. Nobody was perfect, but a pair of players did score 5 times. On the flipside, one unfortunate entrant only got a single point. The much-revised standings: Day 12: 11/18 Decisions, TB 8-16 Pos Player Pts TB 1 Rocks 9 14 2 Tenshinhan 8 12 3 Katsunorifuji 8 15 4 Asashosakari 7 12 5 Mmikasazuma 7 13 6 chishafuwaku 7 14 7 Athenayama 7 16 8 Jejima 7 20 9 Sakura 6 13 9 Tsuchinoninjin 6 11 11 Holleshoryu 6 14 11 Pitinosato 6 10 11 Ryoshishokunin 6 14 14 Pandaazuma 5 13 14 WAKATAKE 5 11 14 wolfgangho 5 13 17 ryafuji 5 15 18 Profomisakari 4
Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) Day 13 And caught up to the present time, with two more results: Makekoshi for top-ranked juryo Hidenoumi, predicted correctly by exactly half the field, as well as for newcomer Kotosusumu in mid-sandanme, this one a slight minority pick. Five double scores, seven singles, six zeros. The final open off-ballot decision also concluded today: Mishima clinched the last-match kachikoshi and will be joining the game proper. The current standings: Day 13: 13/18 Decisions, TB 9-14 Pos Player Pts TB 1 Tenshinhan 10 12 2 Rocks 9 14 3 Athenayama 9 16 4 Tsuchinoninjin 8 11 5 Mmikasazuma 8 13 6 chishafuwaku 8 14 7 Katsunorifuji 8 15 8 Asashosakari 7 12 9 Pandaazuma 7 10 9 Pitinosato 7 13 9 Sakura 7 13 9 wolfgangho 7 13 13 Holleshoryu 7 14 14 Jejima 7 20 15 Ryoshishokunin 6 14 16 ryafuji 6 15 17 WAKATAKE 5 11 18 Profomisakari 5 14 Still five decisions to go, a trio of lower division 3-3's and two sekitori on 7-6 scores (Yutakayama and Kotonowaka). Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 22, 2020 Day 14 Four of the five remaining decisions came in, among them two strong majority predictions and two unexpected results: Makuuchi debutant Kotonowaka finally clinched his kachikoshi at the fifth time of asking, while collegiate prospect Tokisakae extended his KK streak at the last minute in makushita. The pair of results that collectively didn't favour us also weren't so good for the rikishi involved, as Toma and Ito fell to makekoshi in sandanme, ending their KK streaks at 5. Nobody scored the full four points today, but the leader did pick up three. What's more, both pursuers were limited to fewer points than that, so we're actually done here: Congratulations, Tenshinhan! Our champion has won his second LKS yusho, exactly four years on from the first. The not quite final standings: Day 14: 17/18 Decisions, TB 11-12 Pos Player Pts TB 1 Tenshinhan 13 12 2 Athenayama 11 16 2 chishafuwaku 11 14 2 Mmikasazuma 11 13 5 Tsuchinoninjin 10 11 6 Pitinosato 10 10 6 Rocks 10 14 6 Sakura 10 13 9 Asashosakari 9 12 10 Holleshoryu 9 14 10 Jejima 9 20 10 Katsunorifuji 9 15 10 Pandaazuma 9 13 10 Ryoshishokunin 9 14 10 wolfgangho 9 13 16 ryafuji 8 15 17 Profomisakari 7 14 18 WAKATAKE 5 11 Lots of players on 9 and 10 points for whom the last competing rikishi (7-7 Yutakayama) could become decisive.

Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) Okay, I still owe the final results here: Day 15 Maegashira Yutakayama clinched his kachikoshi on senshuraku to remain in the game, something not quite half of us expected. One of them was our already-declared yusho winner, though, and for good measure it also helped him hit the tie-breaker score for an even more emphatic victory: Day 15: 18/18 Decisions, TB 12 Pos Player Pts TB 1 Tenshinhan 13 12 2 Athenayama 11 16 2 chishafuwaku 11 14 2 Mmikasazuma 11 13 2 Rocks 11 14 2 Tsuchinoninjin 11 11 7 Holleshoryu 10 14 7 Jejima 10 20 7 Katsunorifuji 10 15 7 Pitinosato 10 10 7 Sakura 10 13 7 wolfgangho 10 13 13 Asashosakari 9 12 14 Pandaazuma 9 13 14 Ryoshishokunin 9 14 16 Profomisakari 8 14 16 ryafuji 8 15 18 WAKATAKE 5 11 With the assorted W-L bonuses that'll be a 4-win margin for Tenshinhan ahead of the many-ways tie for second place. As far as I can tell that's a first; the most dominant results so far were seven cases of a 3-win margin. Asashosakari is the only other player to pick up the tie-breaker bonus win. The new ballot for Natsu(?) 2020: 1. Kotoshoho 9 2. Kotonowaka 8 Roga 7* 3. Terunofuji 7 4. Amakaze 7 5. Daikisho 7 6. Suzuki 7 Kotosusumu 6 7. Yutakayama 6 Akua 5 8. Tokisakae 6* 9. Kitanowaka 6* Shoji 5 Toma 5*10. Yoshii 6* Ito 5* Enho 4 Hidenoumi 411. Araoyama 5*12. Mishima 5*---13. Asanoyama 414. Ikioi 415. Kaisei 416. Hakuyozan 4 A nice batch of sekitori additions at the bottom, led by our incoming ozeki to provide LKS with a sanyaku presence again. Asashosakari 19,320 Posted March 30, 2020 (edited) Scores for banzuke purposes: Tenshinhan 15 (13+top+tb) Athenayama 11 chishafuwaku 11 Mmikasazuma 11 Rocks 11 Tsuchinoninjin 11 Holleshoryu 10 Jejima 10 Katsunorifuji 10 Pitinosato 10 Sakura 10 wolfgangho 10 Asashosakari 10 (9+tb) Pandaazuma 9 Ryoshishokunin 9 Profomisakari 8 ryafuji 8 WAKATAKE 5 Total: 179 / 18 = 9.94 ---> -2 wins Ugh, that KK/MK split... Since the individual results called for a different solution - minus 3 wins for 6 KK / 12 MK - rather than the 13/5 we have now based on the average score, I tried out both alternatives to create the new banzuke. The one with the MK excess didn't work at all, so minus 2 wins it was (and this went surprisingly well). Very lucky turn of events for all the 10-point players. The new banzuke for Natsu 2020: Asashosakari (Ye 8-7) Y ---Mmikasazuma (Oe 9-6 J) O1 chishafuwaku (Ow 9-6 J)--- O2 Athenayama (S1e 9-6 J)Tenshinhan (Ke 13-2 Y) S Rocks (S2w 9-6 J)Jejima (M2e 8-7) K Sakura (M2w 8-7)Tsuchinoninjin (M5w 9-6 J) M1 Holleshoryu (M3w 8-7)Pandaazuma (Kw 7-8) M2 ryafuji (S1w 6-9)Ryoshishokunin (M1w 7-8) M3 wolfgangho (M6e 8-7)Joaoiyama (M3e kosho) M4 Katsunorifuji (NR 8-7)Pitinosato (NR 8-7) M5 robnplunder (M4e kosho)Profomisakari (M1e 6-9) M6 Achiyama (M5e kosho)WAKATAKE (M4w 3-12) M7 --- What a difference two months make - again 8-7 for the yokozuna, but while the Hatsu result was a near-miss in the yusho race, this one has come about in rather forgettable fashion. Third consecutive jun-yusho for ozeki Mmikasazuma, but for a successful tsunatori it continues to lack the necessary oomph to put her over the top. Another chance beckons in the very next basho, of course. Kadoban chishafuwaku cleared his name but given the sheer distance to the winner it's hard to consider it the start of a renewed tsuna run in his case. Congratulations are in order to still-fresh Athenayama, however, who ascends to the rank of ozeki after just three LKS participations. A run of solo 4th place, yusho-doten and now jun-yusho (9-11-9 in win terms) was sufficiently impressive here. Rocks had the same scores in the most recent two tournaments, but with a makekoshi in Kyushu basho he lacked the support of a third strong result to earn the promotion as well, something he may be able to change next time. Champion Tenshinhan moves up to sekiwake and finds himself in essentially the same position regarding an ozeki promotion, having also been MK back in November. Athenayama 1,041 Posted March 31, 2020 Congratulations to the winner Tenshinhan for a great record and thanks to Asashosakari for running this game ! This is a rather easy to play game (as most are, actually) so I'd really love to see more players participate in the future. I don't see any reason why there are only 20ish players while other games on this forum have 10 to 20 more. I'm sure they could also participate to this one. It's a pre-basho game so if you study for the other games you probably have done more than half the work to also play this one. We'll be waiting for you to try !
