Kaminariyuki 500 Posted June 5, 2020 OK, I know I've seen this somewhere on SF before, but how far back do we have to go to find a rikishi of less than Enho's 98/99 kg?
sekitori 492 Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) Ishinriki, who reached Juryo 1 in 1989 and retired in 1991, was 175 cm (5 feet 9 inches) tall and weighed 85 kg (187 lb). He was three inches taller than Enho but weighed far less than Enho's 98/99 kg. Despite his very small size, he had a career record of approximately 20 more wins than losses. There may have been smaller rikishis but I doubt if any of them came close to reaching the rank of Juryo 1. This is a video of him putting up a very good performance against Takahanada who later became yokozuna Takanohana. Edited June 5, 2020 by sekitori

I assume you mean sekitori. Obviously there must be a few kids in jonokuchi who are lighter. In addition to Ishinriki there was Takanoyama who may have been a kilo or two lighter then Enho when he was in juryo. Benihana 1,937 Posted June 5, 2020 If you want to see a more recent sekitori with a very lean height-to-weight ratio, czech this one: http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Rikishi.aspx?r=1215

Figured there might have been someone since Mianoumi (but I haven't checked his actual stats).

Remarkable.
Swami 245 Posted June 6, 2020 I think for the most of his career Mainoumi was around the 95/96 kg mark, only near the end did he hit the 100kg. Kyokudozan was around 95kg when he first entered Makunouchi, but he did manage to put a few kilos on, ending around 105kg. Swami
