Highway 46 Posted September 24, 2020 I think Shodai has really grown in composure recently, and whatever happens tomorrow he can build on a very good showing this basho.

Amamaniac 2,079 Posted September 24, 2020 Yet another observation. As we all know, Tamanoi Stable was hit with an injunction this tournament. Tamanoi oyakata is not performing any shimpan duties, and the 25+ wrestlers in his stable are not participating in the tournament (i.e., no bouts & presumably an automatic MK). So can someone tell me why Tamanoi Stable's gyoji, Kimura Yukihiro is still refereeing? I thought the whole thing was based on infections and potential exposure.

I suppose the NSK's COVID precautions state that gyoji must self isolate in their own "homes", and thus Kimura Yukihiro remained completely out of touch with anyone at the stable? I find that a little difficult to believe.

Benevolance 2,511 Posted September 24, 2020 I was absolutely convinced that after Takakeisho got his 8 wins, he'd go Kaio on us. I had also completely written off Asanoyama after day 3. I guess I'm just having trouble a) seeing Asanoyama and Takakeisho as serious contenders, and b) transitioning away from the Hakuho-era of "rikishi needs to be near perfect to get the yusho".

His star student Abi is under heya-arrest, Oki might be the first rikishi to go zenpai on his sekitori debut and he may potentially have a serious illness (we've already mentioned he doesn't look well) and his brothers all died recently. He is truly one unlucky man. Edited September 25, 2020 by pricklypomegranate

Sophistikage 11 Posted September 25, 2020 Loving that yokazuna swagger from the flying monkey! Although, I think Wakatakakage will be a force to be reckoned with if he can put some more size on. The scoreboard is looking spicy. Psyched for any of these guys to win!
pricklypomegranate 730 Posted September 25, 2020 Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner. Ofukasawa dropped his matched against Shishi, and Hokuseiho won against Nabatame. Hokuseiho takes the Jonidan championship. Excellent work!

jsolo 106 Posted September 25, 2020 2020 Ake Sumo Blog Sumo Aggregated links to articles, video, photos, (Maakuche and lower ranks) with data on match times and Kimarite's to see how the Ake "Team" is doing this time around. Current through Day 12 with Day 13 matchups and preview. Below this one (scroll way down) is blog for July and March. I'm sure you all know all the sources well, but I have aggregated them into one place, with links directly to source material (sometimes that is hard to find at some of these sources after some time has passed.). Hopefully you will find it entertaining, and perhaps useful Feedback always welcome. Perfection is rare and temporary, this phase of sumo which rikishi are still finding themselves out before Hakuho retires is also temporary so i have no worries about the future. Eikokurai 3,437 Posted September 25, 2020 (edited) Terasawa wins the 6-0 'playoff' against Tochiseiryu for the Makushita yusho. (Anyone else not seeing the lower division torikumi results updated on the JSA site? It's still in the middle of Sandanme.) Eikokurai 3,437 Posted September 25, 2020 What's the mono-ii policy this basho? I haven't been paying attention, but I see ex-Takamisakari standing off to the side while the other four shimpan have gathered like usual in the middle.
