Yukina and Takakeisho both were on the Junk Sports show in February o

I'm wondering about the rikishi preference of older wife. It must have been discussed here before but I'm not sure if a definitive answer was found.

Whenever I hear about a sumo wrestler marrying a gorgeous (if slightly older) woman I am reminded of the words of the aesthetically challenged soccer player Peter Crouch. When asked in an interview "What would you have been if you weren't a famous footballer?" he replied "a virgin".

A beautiful woman being attracted to a wealthy man is nothing new. It seems shallow, but it's actually a reflection of an instinctive need for a secure environment in which to raise children. Used to be strongest warrior; now it's the richest bloke. Looks have bugger all to do with it.

I'm not all surprised by rikishi settling down with slightly older women. I know from personal experience that when an inexperienced young man gets involved with an experienced older woman, the result can be overwhelming for the young man (and the only reason I didn't marry a woman 7 years older than me is because she broke it off).

Anyhoo, congrats to Takakeisho. I can imagine Yukina one day being the okami-san fantasy of many a young rikishi!

Yukina (167cm) was affiliated to the entertainment office Oscar Promotion and stopped about a year ago, then saying, to start a business with her mother, the ex-okamisan of Hatachiyama-beya. She has a cheerful nature, can take a drink and is the type to get along well with anybody: expected to become a good okamisan. While at the office, she also had done sumo related work, for the cover of a Sumo magazine etc. o

I'm wondering if it's also prevalent in other sports (or profession). Would be interesting to know if there is some sumo wisdom/tradition behind it.

The tabloid Weekly Post reports that Takakeisho moved out of his apartment and to Hokutenyu's old Hatachiyama-beya, apparently only her family home now, but it is said that it still has the dohyo -  so he is an ozeki with his own heya now, to properly train also at home.

He said "amari ii koto ga nakatta", so yes, actually it's closer to "not much".
