I can't recommend After Life (Netflix) highly enough, an astonishing blend of tragedy and comedy. I've always blown hot and cold with Ricky Gervais. I couldn't get into The Office, but I thought Extras was excellent. This one is his best yet, IMO.

If you can find it anywhere, Peter Kay's Car Share (BBC) is brilliant. All his stuff is brilliant actually and most of it was available on DVD, so it's probably out there somewhere on the Internet. Check out That Peter Kay Thing, Phoenix Nights, Max & Paddy, and Britain's got the Pop Factor... and possibly a new Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice.

Money Heist on Netflix. It concerns a gang stealing money from the Spanish Royal Mint. I've seen seasons 1 and 2 consisting of ten episodes of about 40 minutes each. Seasons 3 and 4 are now available. It's done in Spanish with excellent English dubbing and is considered one of the most watched series on Netflix. 

Another favorite is a Netflix documentary series--Formula 1; Drive to Survive. It covers two seasons of Grand Prix racing and season 3 will be on the way. I was never much of an automobile racing fan, but this series is a must for anyone who enjoys competition at its highest degreee.

There is newly-revived British satirical puppet show called Spitting Image, they made all public figure puppets.

Try as I did, I couldn’t make it through the first 20 minutes. Not funny, archaic, mundane, etc..

Those are the guys from the Genesis "Land of Confusion" video, right?

Always found them vulgar and not very insightful (but I'm not a Brit); if you're parodying your warped image of a person, it doesn't ring very true.  Pro tip:  if you see your political enemies parodied and you think "that's not funny!" it probably isn't funny.

They were quite good when they did Lady Di and Charles and the other royals. For a short time the show was shown here in Germany regularly, but it became extremely boring later on and disappeared.

I have not much to add to this thread, my TV series interest used to focus on SF, the original Star Trek is my all time favorite and up to Next Generation I followed the series. TV shows I now watch are usually Japanese, especially anime, from local TV mostly documentaries on the VOD libraries of public stations, mostly ARTE, downloaded with MediathekView etc. Dr. Who is available in the English original and recently switched to Peter Capaldi, it's close to 6 years behind.

Yeah, Spitting Image was good while Maggie was in power, then it lost its direction. 

Can't believe they wanted to bring it back. Who needs parody with Boris, Donald, Vladimir and the gang in charge?

I also forgot to mention "Warrior". Surprised that no one mentioned it here before me. Originally written by Bruce Lee, he unfortunately died before being able to launch this project. Martial arts are rare in tv shows so that fact alone makes it interesting to watch. Story isn't very original but give it a shot and make your own judgement. It's still entertaining for me. Season 2 is currently running.

If you're into martial arts, you might like to check out Ironfist and Daredevil on Netflix. Both are Marvel characters, but these shows are not like the Avengers superhero movies. They're much grittier and more adult in content, with a great focus on Oriental martial arts.

Why didn't anyone mention Stranger Things? I ignored it until yesterday. Now i'm almost done with season 2. Holy! F******! S***! The plot, the setting, the music, the actors, it's magnificent! I never played (A)D&D, but other RPGs (and TTGs) and i always was one - well, i stall am one - of the nerdy boys, so i can identify. I absolutely LOVE it!

A few have mentioned Monk, which is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.  Other than Columbo, which was more of a howcatchhim than a whodunit, the previous mystery show on prime time network US TV was a single season of Ellery Queen in the 1970s, which was quite good.  Our family used to watch those and guess (usually wrongly) who the killer was in the final commercial break.

When in the mood for some fun I’ve enjoyed some of the Cats Does Countdown series on YouTube, which led me to Taskmaster, which is often very ingenious and quite unique in format, taking months of pre-filming to set up a series of often hilarious shows.  The brilliance of the ‘Debajo De La Mesa’ escapade (Series 2, I think) will never be forgotten.

I thought the Crown lost the thread a bit in season four but maybe I just prefer history to stuff I actually recall.  The original BBC version of House Of Cards is somewhat dated but still brilliant after all these years, you can now find that on APV as well: far and away the better programme than the US version, which took 13 hours to get F.U. to the White House while the BBC version made him Prime Minister in four.  Also great if you can find them on YouTube are the original TV miniseries of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley’s People, but I’m still reeling from the death of John Le Carré.

Speaking of YouTube, we've gotten sucked into watching old game shows from the '50s, like the original The Price is Right, What's My Line, and The Name's the Same. They are from well before my time, but it's fun to see how things have changed.
