Kaminariyuki 499 Posted December 21, 2020 OK,sumojoann, Rabid John and Benihana are all of one mind, I think I must agree. I was quite entertained by all of your replies, BTW.

Do we know whether the macaron tradition will continue in 2021? Not a terribly important point, and nobody may know, but I confess I'm finishing up the writing of a story I've written about my experiences with sumo. I'll post a link to the book, when I finally get it published, on the Articles by Forum members thread.

Quickly glossing over the fact that it's a teacup, it is self-evident that they could drink from it. I've seen photos of rikishi drinking sake from another ridiculously large trophy, so I imagine some of them probably had a go while the oyakata was away. The giant macaron is a very convincing fake that is bound to have newcomers wondering. I certainly did. And I don't believe it's a question of whether the winner has to eat the prize macarons so much as whether there'll be any left when he gets back from his yusho parade. Akinomaki 40,266 Posted December 23, 2020 (edited) The macarons are really one of the favorites subjects on the forum. But have to say, after research, where's the fun if the macaron is always green, pink (and the rare gold)? Also I wanted to ask - the giant macaron is just a plush toy or fake right? It's not real? And what exactly is the prize? Like a box of macarons?
