I also demoted the 4 top 7-8 wrestler by half a rank instead of remaining them at their previous rank. On Monday I will see whether this was a good idea.

I did that with the M4s but not Ichinojo/Tochinoshin.

43, I think this is not good, expect 6-9 or 5-10 for this

63. Things got a bit weird in the middle but I still hit enough of the bullseyes that I doubt I was harmed by it. Hoping not many put Takayasu/Takanosho in the right order. I nailed Okinoumi though and suspect my score is pretty good. I was thinking I could be in contention for the victory if I had had Ryuden/Daiamami in the right order for an extra 4 points?

So I guess my hunch that Takayasu will get the SE spot will not happen..

55 I think; I scored at least something on every line but one, so that's saved me. I think I'm happy with that, depending on what more people say... Kaito's the highest score I've heard so far still!

I think I have 58; kicking myself for moving Hoshoryu ahead of the M4 duo, which cost me 5 points, though having him land 1.5 ranks below Chiyonokuni despite recording the same number of wins at the same rank just doesn't seem right.

I did the same thing, I agree totally! But they've done it a few times lately now so they're obviously fine with it. I can't bring myself to do it though, it makes no sense to me (Scratchingchin...)

I've gotten used to seeing one guy splitting such a pairing, but not two. And here there really was no case that a half-rank demotion would be in any way unfair to the 7-8s.

Well, the results are in for the May 2021 GTB. The winner is a third-time winner- Okisuruga! Congrats! At the top of the Banzuke  - Reonito!  123 players this time- 15 new players, 4 of them kachikoshi and 2 probably  taking the piss..Anyhow, a weird one I guess.

Mildly stoned:

Jejima- 120 bashos !!!!

Ganzohnesushi -90 bashos !

Chiyonosawa - 70 bashos

Wamahada- 70 bashos

Aminoumi- 50 bashos

Gurowake- 40 bashos

Kishikaisei - 20 bashos

Chisaiwashi - 20 bashos

Thank you all for playing and see you again next time - Go here to see how you actually did!

And now-on with the Ba-show!!

Incidentally, is there any legend for the colour backgrounding on the GTB banzuke? I can figure out teal is for shin-deshi, and green is for sanyaku, but is red a personal best result?

You show red until you have entered 6 times I think, probably shows that you haven't got full ranking points yet I guess.

I am soooo not on the same wavelength as the committee at the moment :-(

The more I play this game, the worse I get, damn it. My worst statistics in any fantasy game ! (Laughing...)

I stopped praying after a while as I totally sucked. Then I decided to see how the results were and tried to learn from that. I learned nothing and then I re-entered. I've been borderline ever since, but I'm getting the hang of it. Don't give up, it will suddenly happen.

Oh I never intended to stop playing GTB. I'm kind of tenacious as regarding games at least. Anyway if it "doesn't happen" I'll keep trying even only for the joy of playing. Thanks for the advices !

The only reason my guess had Hokutofuji below Meisei was that it was established that they could keep rikishi at their ranks with a KK.  I didn't think it would happen, but I'm generally very methodical about how I make calls like this, and with that being an option, I had to go with it because Meisei should have been ranked higher.  I didn't really think it would happen, but there are always a few weird decisions on each banzuke and I don't like second-guessing myself and thus do it basically all by algorithm.

Two changes to the top ten ranks after this basho. Dropping out are Chiyonosawa after a two-basho stay, and Korinokoishi after his maiden top ten appearance last time. They are replaced by two returnees, both of whom are bouncing back immediately after a single basho - yusho winner Okisuruga and Jemuzu.

Sakura has the longest current stint inside the top ten ranks, this being her 13th consecutive basho in green - this is a record for a player in their first top ten stint, surpassing the previous mark of 12 set by Flohru (2003.01-2004.11) and equalled by Seki Haruaki (2007.05-2009.03).

Speaking of Flohru, he is the 15th player to surpass 5,000 career points. Of those, he is only the 4th to reach the milestone in less than 100 basho (this was his 99th), following Asashosakari (93), Feginowaka (94) and Susanoo (96).

(Laughing...) I guess one of the downsides of advertising for over 100 players is that some of them are bound to be duds, whether deliberate or not. The eternal president of North Korea set a new low here by scoring only a single point, with an entry that for some reason was allowed to include the retired Kakuryu at Yokozuna. (And on that note, veterans Taxinohana and Veshana should probably know better...)

Trivial error query for @Andoreasu - the entry for Ralvaj in 122nd place shows only a single hit (Okinoumi at M12e, one point), but the results table shows two hits and two points. I assume it's the results table that is wrong here?

Anyway, those two are only the 4th and 5th guesses in the history of the game to earn a single-digit score, and the first for over 17 years.

Thanks for the quick update to the results archive by the way, whoever is responsible for that. (Signofapproval...)

Indeed, it's nice to have that done at the same time as the rest of the website is updated for the new basho.

I can't help but notice that absolutely no one thought that they would split the difference between Kiribayama and Myogiryu and put Hoshoryu smack between them.  He ends up being between them on the list though because people were split rather evenly between putting Hoshoryu ahead of both and putting him behind both.  It's rather unusual to see such a large number of guesses on either side of a spot where there were absolutely 0 guesses.

That's correct, the results table is wrong. Thanks for spotting this!

We always leave duds in. We always let all players explore all options, crazy as they may be.
