Gagamaru activities

Apologies for thread necromancy, but I did not see a "Gagamaru activities" thread. Here is an video interview he did with POPEYE Magazine, only in Japanese of course, talking about sumo, Georgia, his favourite food and his match with Hakuho.

There was none, but looks like we can use one - since he lives in Tokyo (shitamachi), I put it in this subforum

Since Feb. 25th Gaga is doing a diet and lost about 20kg in a month. 1 meal a day, like this:

abstaining from his beloved ice cream and he gradually made it up to a 10 000 steps walk every day - "The first week I thought I'd die". Since his active days he suffers from diabetes, so he drinks green tea now during the interview (behind a pay wall)

Gagamaru is getting slimmer still, about 150kg now, down 60kg from his active weight of 210kg. He's involved with the Osaka based Japan sumo foundation, founded last November, the other one listed among the members there is ex-Amuru, but as a friend https://nihon-sumo.jp/menber/

Doing events and working as talento, he plans to stay in Japan indefinitely ("bury his bones" there). When he has mastered Japanese, he'll think about marriage.

Still no danpatsu-shiki for him as well, like the many oyakata who wait for a chance to have some bigger event in the kokugikan.

On the 23rd he was on an NHK program about how to reduce bicycles accidents https://www.nhk.jp/p/ts/172ZQKG7JM/episode/te/26V992PV3V/

2x posting this but since it's directly related to Gagamaru and his YT channel I think it's acceptable to put it in both relevant threads:

A video of him discussing the Nagoya basho with ex-Amūru, on his own channel. He has some videos since 3 months ago, and also a number of shorts from a Q&A he seems to have done.

Gagamaru (35) had his danpatsushiki today with about 250 guests (or 170 cutters o), due to Corona Kise oyakata was not there - before that he had married a Japanese woman (33) whom he has a relation with since 2015

Please tell me what he's wearing is considered Georgian ethnic/national dress, because otherwise it looks like a really weird getup from around the time of the Black Ships. He looks dapper, though.

Yes, it's their national costume. It is called Chokha.

A video from the event - the photo shoot after the danpatsu-shiki and then a long interview in really good Japanese, talking also about the national costume. He has about 132/3kg now and he won't become Japanese unless it's necessary for something.

Few days ago I came to Batumi, Georgia. Today at 9 a.m. I was walking to the beach and saw Gagamaru passing by. It took me a while to understand that it was him…Looks like he’s lost at least 10 kilos after his danpatsu-shiki

Very off-topic but how have you enjoyed Georgia? I've always wanted to go there as a tourist but I'm not sure if I can justify putting it on my first solo trip to Europe.

I did enjoy Georgia. A small, poor country with ancient culture, great food and amazing nature. I can’t say it was totally “wow”, but this country is definitely worth a visit.

You can write me a private message if you want and I’ll give you Instagram of the people who conducted a tour for more details.

The latest video from GAGA-channel was a very interesting retrospective on how he grew up and what he did before becoming a sekitori. At least from the 60-70% of it that I understood. A photo of him and Tochinoshin in the 2004 olympic team for judo is included from 6 minutes in.. i think

Auto-translated captions don't really help either as they start with "I'm a former young girl, Painter Maru." (Laughing...)
