Nothing shows up for me, either. I'd hate to think that Seiyashi is intimating Kintamayama might lack a certain je ne sais quoi?

Hmmm, apparently Google embeds don't work, at least for some browsers (I know sumojoann can see these).

This work? EDIT: From the likes, yes.

As mawashi it would be a bit over the top, but it would make a fabulous yukata:

A yukata for the rikishi or for Benihana? I think the style may be more European than Japanese but you could be right about the yukata.

I've found that many Japanese men do not own a yukata. I actually have two more than any of my close Japanese friends. Maybe my friends aren't the norm but I have the impression they only wear yukata when they go to an onset town or resort.

"After quickly reaching Sumo Forum Juryo, he was given an additional prefix, "go-" to his shikona.  This proved disastrous, as he suffered make-koshi records in the next three basho and fell to mid-Makushita.  Upon returning to his original ring name, he quickly rebounded and began his meteoric rise to SF Yokozuna."  Wackipedia article, "Kintamayama Moti"

(Inlove...)If Kintamayama had this many, he'd have to get a bigger mawashi.

I respect Kintamayama and myself too much to be a groupie, so I'll guess the contents of his mawashi will have to remain a divine mystery.

The rule is actually that mawashi have to be either black or dark purple - it just isn't enforced. I don't think any rikishi would dare push their luck by having more than one colour in their mawashi!

I’ve often wondered if that’s ever written anywhere. If it isn’t, then it’s an unenforced and unwritten rule - so it isn’t actually the rule.

By the same token, I wonder who was the brave soul to first breach the rule, considering we know that Wajima was wearing gold often enough to be well-known for it way back when.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamanoumi_Daitarō

Quote

Tamanoumi reached his highest rank of sekiwake in 1957 but then was forced to sit out a couple of tournaments through injury. He fell to the maegashira ranks and considered retiring, but came back to win the top division tournament championship in November 1957 (the first time the Kyūshū honbasho had been staged) with a perfect 15–0 score. During that tournament he wore a gold-coloured mawashi, the first wrestler to flout the Japan Sumo Association's rule that only dark colours should be worn. It had been given to him by the chairman of his supporter's club, who was also the head of the shipping company for whom he had worked in his years out of sumo. Because other wrestlers regarded it as a symbol of good luck, and also because NHK began colour broadcasts of sumo matches in 1960, many others have followed Tamanoumi's lead and worn brightly coloured mawashi.

The equivalent ja.wiki article adds that he received special permission from the board of directors because he (originally) intended it to be his final tournament.

All I can say is the number doesn't matter-what really matters is how loud the sound is when they clang together.

LOL, one doesn't get anything by Seiyashi normally, but I have to "ahem," given my original post, creating this thread.

I admit my shame. It's not often a thread comes full circle like this!

I accept the warning of the SF kyokai, and shall endeavour to be more respectable with my posting. (Beingninja...)

True.  And I can't help but imagine that you are the "Big Ben" of Ramat Gan!
