Takagenji Caught Smoking Weed

I found some numbers:

Poppy seed bagel = 250 mg poppy seeds

Drug test limit = 2000 mg

So, if you test positive, you're clearly addicted to something (maybe bagels).

According to this, a proper German grandma made Mohnkuchen would make you high AF. I love Mohnkuchen.

I hear at Hollywood parties they line up rows of poppy seeds and lick them right off the table.

Isn't there a rule in these forums, that if you praise any type of food you should supply a recipe?

Well, if there isn't, there should be.

Please provide a recipe for Mohnkuchen, and if possible, your own grandma's recipe!

Nikkan seems to be saying that Takagenji is leaving, it's a matter of if he is allowed to retire or be dismissed

Good riddance either way.

I remembered a story from the UK a few years ago...

Angela Rippon (in her 70s) is a well-respected news-reader journalist, former presenter of Top Gear and once famously danced with Morecambe and Wise,. Anyway, she was presenting a consumer programme, when someone said that they had been fired from their job because of drugs - and could only think of poppy seeds.

So, Ms Rippon ate some tasty poppy seed bread - and also tested positive.

Oh, I remember this one from QI - when asked which Top Gear presenter failed a drugs test, Alan Davies proceeded to name all the hosts from the Clarkson era onwards (despite knowing full well it was a trick question since they were conveniently plastered on the screens) and got klaxoned every single time. That was classic.

****BOREDOM ALERT****

I thought this was kind of bizarre so decided to post it, and here seems like the best place.  It's the "Shokkiri Twins", Takagenji and his twin Takayoshitoshi (aka Takanofuji) performing shokkiri at a jungyo in 2016.  Usually, the pretend "violence" of shokkiri makes me laugh.  But this time, when they smacked each other around and hit each other on the head, I both cringed and laughed with glee.  I cringed because of the real violence Takayoshitoshi (and maybe Takagenji, I don't remember) inflicted upon tsukebito and juniors at their heya.  I laughed with glee seeing them hit each other, hoping they inflicted at least some pain on each other.

I thought their shokkiri routine was actually rather boring -- slow and dragged out.  But who knows, maybe they smoked a little weed before beginning their performance and that slowed them down!

Missing from the Aki Banzuke.

That's because he was booted out in July.  (The SF Database hasn't been updated to reflect this).

He left after the banzuke was made, and there's now a vacant rank where he should have been.

I think it's the first time I've seen this. Quite a few rikishi have appeared on the banzuke after intai, but they weren't booted.

Nowadays it's reserved for rikishi who leave in disgrace. Asashoryu was the highest-profile recipient of this treatment.

And those who abruptly become oyakata, like Toktisuumi in 2007- apparently he couldn't appear both as a rikishi and Tokitsukaze Oyakata on the same banzuke.

Similar in that he didn't appear, yes, but not quite the same: Haru 2010 Banzuke (sumogames.de)

The same would've been a blank YE with Hakuho at YW.

I don't agree, it's the same in the sense that the division is short one rikishi (only 41 makuuchi rikishi). It would also be the same if it were the last rikishi in a division - not at once visible but tipp-exed nonetheless.

Huh?

Asashoryu took the January yusho, so when the committee sat a couple of days afterwards they would have put him at YE for March. Six weeks later, Asashoryu wasn't just gone from the banzuke, Hakuho had been moved across from the other side.

There is always the possibility that they originally had Takagonji at J9E, but moved Nishikifuji across from J9W for the published version, I suppose...

Ok, in Asashoryu's case it was a bit more effort than just erasing his name as they indeed also changed Hakuho from YW to YE, but it's not like they really created a new banzuke.

There is a rumor that Takagenji was involved in a pot smoking incident.  Maybe we should start a topic on that. ;-)

It hear it happened during the Nagoya basho. I imagine he'll be joining his brother in MMA soon.

I heard it was because he watched an old video of him and his brother trying to entertain a crowd with sumo humor, and some people a few years later on the internet didn't think it was funny. He heard this, and watched it himself, and realized he was going to need to alter his mind state to enjoy it, so he smoked some weed and snorted some poppy seeds.

Formal charges have been filed against Takagenji today. In a search at his home, illegal substances were found in small quantities in a water pipe found on his table.
