We've seen ballet on the tawara from time to time, but was that a break-dancing move Kiribayama pulled in his loss to Daieisho?

More like a badly executed attempt at the Lindy Hop. I believe however that "b-boys" do, on occasions, throw themselves onto their backs without help from another performer, so your comparison is valid.

Ms1e Terasawa did not get an easy opponent in on-form Daishoho, but pulled out a nice win to go to 3-1, looking really pumped after the bout. Sekitorihood is looming.

Certainly hope so as he's a fine all-rounder with a great attitude. The spirit of Lucky the Rabbit and his lapine oyakata El-arairah will be most pleased. We need more Watership Down references on this forum.

Apparently Terunofuji has four yokozuna kesho mawashi sets, the first he used the first four days, the one from Nagatanien, the only one presented in the news, he used for three days. Tomorrow he will change again, so the other sets he will all use four days. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202109180000876.html

Not that I have any expertise, but his dhoyo-iri has looked really good to me, compared to the ceremony last month.

Ura trying something funny again, but Okinoumi's experience really saving him this basho against tricksters like Ura and Terutsuyoshi. That attempted backwards throw  (can't remember the name of that kimarite offhand) ends up collapsed.

Yes, he committed himself to the maneuver but it wasn't happening today.

Bloody battle between Chiyonokuni and Endo. At the end it looked both have injuries, the Kokonoe guy in the head and ex Golden boy in the lips. Ura and Kiribayama are my next pick for some kind of street dance contest, or Cirque du Soleil. Gratz to Tamajiro for pointing with the gumbai while falling from the dohyo. And glad cause Takayasu won in a less terrible way.

He got a little over-confident, I think.  He saw himself in a very difficult situation and figured "what the hell?", but Okinoumi has been around the block a few times.

Yes, he got better day by day. On day 3 I actually thought: What is that talk that the dohyo-iri is something that strains him and could shorten his career. This sumo kata strengthens his lower body and his knees as well, aids his balance and makes him focus on being the yokozuna, way above the others.

Except today's Ichinojo was far from struggling. You never really know which Ichi will show up on a given day.

The same could be said about Mitakeumi (and my golf game).

All hopes on Myogiryu today to make the Yusho race interesting.

I wonder what the record is for the most in 1 tournament...

Seems to be 5 in makuuchi.

And 7 in juryo, but with a larger division at that time.

added juryo, where Mr. Akua is atm

Miyogiryu is like a spiritual Maegashira 17 this basho.

I suspect that he has been time-swapped with the Myogiryu of 2012.

I made the wrong conclusion from the article, Terunofuji used the Nagatanien set also today. Nikkan wrote he used it for three days, shiyou 使用, which can mean that's it, but also for possibly more days.

Ahhhh Henkashoma  (Scratchingchin...)

That's one way to get one win in a basho.

Takayasu's head was even up, I guess either his eyes were closed or has very limited mobility at the moment.

Uh oh, Hoshoryu just swung his arm in excitement after winning his match. Good thing he's not a Mongolian Yokozuna or we'd be subjected to endless statements about it for the next week.

I really liked Ichinojo vs Hoshoryu, both matches. Good win for Hoshoryu.

Edit: Shodai seemed to forget how to sumo in the middle of sumo.

It's a pity Tamawashi seems closer to an MK. Otherwise he and Kiribayama would be strong candidates for the shukunsho for being the only two rikishi to seriously trouble Terunofuji.
