Half the division is a reasonable candidate.

Tochinoshin certainly wasn't on the list...

The real problem with this game now in the era of "wait for Day 14 results for Day 15 torikumi decisions" is that it makes this game more than just guessing what the Kyokai will do, but guessing the Day 14 results too.  I'm almost certain given the Yusho race that they'll do it again this tournament.

One thing for sure is that this is probably the only issue for which the Kyokai has decided that Bench Sumo is a good model, now that it's in an era where the records are much more similar to Bench than normal.

Not quite sure what you mean by that. Apart from the Makushita division, the Torikumi for Senshuraku are usually published before day 14's results.

I was actually thinking the same as Gurowake.

On days 12- 14, the Makunouchi torikumi for Bench Sumo usually features very genki lower ranked players fighting genki-ish sanyaku opponents, who may have a worse record than their low ranked opponents.

Ozumo seems to have copied that model this basho :-)

What do you get if you cross an elephant with a rhino?

15. Takarafuji

I correctly predicted all the sanyaku matches yesterday, plus Takanosho-Wakatakakage.  Not that it would ever have helped much for what was asked for in this game.

Considerably less than a 50:50 chance that it happens, but let's assume they're both 7-7 and go with

15. Takarafuji

I'm just glad that Jejima didn't use me as a genki Sanyaku player. :-P

I guess the delay with the day 15 torikumi is trying to decide whether to match Terunofuji against Myogiryu - or not.  The two Ozekis can easily face each other in the penultimate bout.

Comment:
Yokozuna kuroimori did not perform Ozeki Quality sumo this basho, as requested of him. Before making the new banzuke, we will wait to see whether he decided to continue his Yokozuna career, or do the honourable thing, and declare himself intai. If the latter we hope to see a prodigy of kuroimori starting his career in mae-zumo in November. :-)

I hereby declare intai, hopefully intaime (sorry) for the banzuke making deadline. I am going for a real intai though, not a reset-start-again-from-the-bottom-type intai. It was great to compete in this very special competition, but lately I could not find sufficient time, energy and spirit that is needed for this challenge. Hence, intai it is.

Bowing out thankfully and with greatest respect to all the competitors and especially to Jejima and Jakusotsu for keeping this game running.

Thank you to @Jejima and @Jakusotsu for running this game. It is always a pleasure.

A bit upset with myself for not  getting Day 13 right. I had Endo originally, but talked myself into Myogiryu. Other than that, we had to contend with Hokutofuji's absence and Hoshoryu's return, which messed everybody up. Day 14/15 are another matter. I'm assuming that there is a thought process there, but I haven't worked out what it is yet.

Thanks again.

I haven't been playing long, but I don't think Hokutofuji has been ranked that low since Kisenosato retired?

No.  Lowest he's been is just out of the joi.

(We actually didn't use Kise for some years, with a rotating cast of characters in use when I joined: after ozeki promotion Kise's schedule was too 'easy'.  The decision was made to go back to a fixed guy to get more investment in him until he either cratered or got promoted: we'll see if Hokutofuji makes enough of a recovery to keep being our dude.)

I'm of the opinion we carry on with Kiribayama next basho.  But we'll see what the rijicho has to say.

I think I remember once that he said that if he is out of the joi for two basho we'd move on to someone else. I might, of course, be mistaken.
